I have been thinking about this on multiple occasions, and I wanted to figure out just how feasible this is. I want to go experience typical hunter-gatherer life. I want to spend a year or two living somewhere in the African plains or the... (more)

Because you have organized language, you're educated, understand basic sanitation like hand washing and cooking science (that heat isn't magic, for example), have expectations of recorded history, etc., etc., your experience wouldn't be typical.... (more)

I saw a similar question going back to April of last year. Not much of a response, which is sad to me because I feel that red palm oil is the equal to coconut oil and butter and bacon fat, albeit very different taste-wise. For slow-cooking... (more)

I use a little with eggs as, like Ben said, it gives them the most lovely, appetizing color. I also use it to round-out my ground beef and lamb "curries" which I eat for lunch over (don't tell) white rice. I hadn't thought of throwing some in... (more)

July 1, I am moving to Guinea, West Africa for over two years. For the first few months of this, I will be living with a host family and will have very little control of my diet. After the first few months though, I will be living on my own and... (more)

How about you bring cash so that you can provide for your host family? I suspect that meat is occasional because it is expensive. If you want to come across as the weird foreigner who brought meat in her luggage, by all means, pack jerky. (more)

I am moving to West Africa July 1st. Breakfast and dinner will be cooked for me and most likely will be rice and sauce, which is great. My issue is lunch... I will be buying it from a market for the first 3 months that I live there (there is not... (more)

Hi all, I leave for the Peace Corps in June 2013 and know that I will be in Sub Saharan Africa. It is most likely that I will be in West Africa (Ghana, Sierra Leone, or Burkina Faso). I will find out the exact country in a month or so and will be... (more)

I live in Cameroon now and have lived in Africa since 2006 (Cameroon, DRC, Namibia). I run in regular running clothes just like everywhere (though I've never been one to run in only a sports bra anywhere). I eat totally Paleo and find it much,... (more)

I'm going to Kenya for a one month volunteer program, and in most of the pictures I've seen, the volunteers eat a lot of the traditional foods. I cannot decipher exactly what they are eating, but I'm hopeful that it won't be hard to adapt to... (more)

I'm going to Kenya this summer (mainly Nairobi, with some time in reserves outside), and I was wondering if anyone has been and has some paleo advice and/or tips? Their traditional staples are corn, potatoes, and beans so I'm a bit concerned.... (more)
