paleo and acid reflux

Hi everyone,

I have been almost 4 months strict paleo.

Only 3 weeks ago i started to have terrible stomach problems,. I had an endoscopy yesterday and so far they told me my acid levels are too high and gave me a medication (emazol-omeprazol) which i think its not great long term, but I'll take it since i feel so bad.

Any suggestions on what im doing wrong to have such high acid after 4months paleo? everything was going so well.

In my case acid reflux stopped within one week of being wheat free--even gave up my favorite adult beverage--scotch. Omeprazole safe for short periods but not for long periods. Try evenly-spaced and well-balanced meals--last meal of the day not at late hour. LEARN TO CHEW WELL AND EAT SLOWLY. This was hard for me because I worked for 40+ years in an acute-care hospital and our lunch periods were only for 30 minutes--including travel time from department to cafeteria and back. Also strongly consider answers to Bobk's question above.

P.S. Omeprazol available over-the-counter in SA/LA (sustained/long acting) form. Also read product insertions ( I know, tedious) but well worth reading about side effects, especially, for any med.

Diet? Eating habits? When does your acid reflux occur? Any correltatin to specific foods?

Before I went paleo, I used to get acid reflux if I ate after 8pm at night. After I eliminated grains, sugar, beer any refined carbs I never got acid reflux no matter how much or when I ate.

Beer & bread, on occasion, used to give me a killer gut ache when consumed on an empty stomach. YMMV
