I would like to understand the similarities and differences between the Atkins and low carb paleo diet, as practised by many. I see two important differences: that paleo stresses the value of pasture raised (if possible also organic) meat, dairy... (more)

As I see it, there are two huge differences: Carbs: Paleo allows sweet potatoes and other starchy tubers for people who are not overweight and who exercise a lot. Potatoes could even be okay if you peel them. Atkins says starches are bad... (more)

Paleo does not necesseraly have to be like Atkins. Atkins (if i understand correctly) was a high-fat, High-protein, low carb diet, but with Paleo you can make it as high or low carb as you want. Also, with Atkins, you can have artificial colors... (more)

My unscientific observation is that people who have little weight to lose (under 20 or 30 lbs) don't see a lot of weight loss on paleo/low carb, at least not in the short term. I think that's because of a "set point"--your body may be happy where... (more)

This video says that eating a low carb diet is dangerous and is basically can cause diabetes through fat toxicity... Is there any merit to this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=es4PFR5GZTY (more)

Atkins stresses low carb. Period. It doesn't seem to have much interest in real food. Paleo stresses real food, removing foods that don't nourish you, increasing foods that do, and whether that happens to be low-carb or not is your choice/needs. (more)
