I am in the camp that believes that it's generally a good idea to keep eating and drinking separate (after all, Grok was not running around with a bottle of Evian to consume with meals). What I'd probably do -- at least as a test to give the HCL... (more)

A couple of days ago, I took 650 mg of Betain HCl (+150 mg of pepsin) as a test to 'diagnose' (or at least get a clue about) low stomach acid. I suspect (breath test coming up soon) SIBO (+ histamine intolerance), so I wanted to rule out low... (more)

Taking more HCL than you need can and often does result in excessive belching. You must have adequate stomach levels, or at least not low enough to warrant the dose you took. http://scdlifestyle.com/2012/03/3-tests-for-low-stomach-acid/ (more)

I've taken betaine HCL for 4 days now and after every time I take it I get tired, lots of bloating, and really dry lips. Anyone else have any of the same symptoms and feel better?

How much HCL do you take and when do you take it? A single HCL capsule (600 mg) taken upon starting a significant meal (eg, with meat) should only cause at worst some temporary heartburn. Yes, it might also kill off some H. pylori but not a... (more)

Take liquorice root powder with a little water a few times a day. About half a teaspoon. If you do have h. pylori, it will help kill it off and keep it from getting worse. But definitely get tested for it!

I have noticed it increases my appetite too. I am not sure why, but I am guessing because the food is being digested properly leaving very little hanging out in your stomach?
