Should bones be used as teething tools (with bonus video)?

I saw this video:

And was struck by the baby attempting to copy the way the dogs were gnawing on their bones. I then started to wonder if anyone had ever given a baby (meaty or not meaty?) bones for teething purposes. Is it acceptable? Encouraged? A Very Bad Idea?

I was, truly, looking for an excuse to post this adorable future-paleo-baby video. I am not a parent, so I have no idea about teething protocols - but I might be someday, so give it to me straight.

monitor very closely. I would not give the baby a bone and then go do something else, even just across the room. I would want to hang out and watch the baby, cause if a chunk came off, I'd want to know it instantly.

As long as the bone is safe like a knuckle bone and not sharp or too small I think a bone is a good 'teething ring' with great flavour.

I'd just monitor the baby while the bone was being chewed.

I've actually heard that some paleo parents do allow their children to chew on bones during teething. Also a good way to introduce them to meat - little by litte.

Read this article... this guy goes all out with his little ones in regards to paleo. Pretty good story!
