Undigested food in bowel movement normal?

I am wondering if it is completely normal to have some undigested material in a bowel movement? Are there certain things that just do not digest due to fiber type/content?

Normal for your GI tract to contain a time machine that spits out pre-chewed food? Hell no that's not normal. I think we should take this show on the road, though.

Try with something simple first, don't go hard core (I overdid on raw carrots). Good luck - I really hope you feel better!

No, I haven't. I have just discovered some guy who healed his ulcer by eating raw foods and drinking cabbage juice. I am trying it now. Thank you for your comment, I will definitely check it out!

VB, have you read *Enzyme Nutrition* by Edward Howell? If not, you would love it! Right up your alley, with raw foods being great for digestion. http://www.amazon.com/Enzyme-Nutrition-Dr-Edward-Howell/dp/0895292211

Just because you see something doesn't mean digestion didn't take place. You're seeing the indigestible matrix, a good amount of the nutrition was likely extracted.

I don't have an answer, but I'm also curious, because this morning I could totally tell I ate cashews last night.

WEll, I didn't really look, because poop kinda grosses me out, lol, but sometimes I see pieces of "stuff" that looks like confetti (salad)? Or bigger pieces.

My opinion is no, if you eat something and it isn't fully digested, then you either have a problem digesting that specific type of food, or have some problem with your digestion generally that is not allowing you to digest what you eat.

While it might sound kind of silly or gross, there are web sites and reports that describe what good bowel movements should be like. This can be informative if, like me, you spent a large part of your life not having good ones. I think that your poops are one of the best indicators of your digestive health and worth paying attention to!

Before I went paleo, let's just say that I had problems digesting leafy greens, among other things, and it was not unusual to see food in the toilet. I too wondered if this was normal, but when I switched to the paleo diet my digestion became much better and it only happens now if I have certain bad foods, like bad seed oils. Interestingly this probably led to me not absorbing nutrients very well which probably made me even sicker.

Occasionally, you may see undigested food fragments in stool. This usually is high-fiber vegetable matter, which isn't digested by the enzymes in your digestive tract. Undigested food in stool generally isn't a problem unless it's accompanied by persistent diarrhea, constipation, weight loss or other changes in your bowel habits. In another case it gives invitation to the various digestive problem such as constipation, bloating, bowel movement.

So strange. I had strawberries about 2 hours ago and they just came out like I never chewed them. Is this normal? I was a little scared and started googling.

Chinaeskimo, have you been eating RAW FOODS with every single meal? It makes your body produce more enzymes and helps your body to digest food better. Give it a full one week to start working.

EATING RAW FOODS WITH EVERY MEAL!!!

I have Celiac so I might not be "normal", but anytime I eat nuts, corn, bell peppers, too much lettuce, carrots, or brown rice...it ends up in my stool undigested.

It's actually nice because I can sift it out and re-eat it to get the remaining nutrients. Just kidding, I flush it and then curse my digestion.

I do not digest bell peppers, but I have intestines destroyed by gluten, so I'm not exactly normal.

Depends what it is, but for instance when we introduced grapes to my sons diet we noticed the skin was never digested and came out whole...this also happened with apple pieces. We removed the things from his diet that he was not digesting and his BM's improved in consistency.

Is it whole food or seeds etc? Raspberry seeds and stuff like that tend to just pass through. Are the pieces large or small?
