Yes, you can be non-constipated, and have effortless daily bowel movements, but with hard, dry stool.I experienced this myself recently, and found that caffeine was causing the problem.

"Scratchy" is bad. The last thing you want is an anal fissure or other related issue. Vegetables with soluble fiber (e.g. sweet potatoes, zucchini) will help take the "edge off" that stool. Do some research, and find which veggies work for you,... (more)

Too much plant fiber (cellulose) or incomplete digestion would be my best guess. Mine is often similar to yours (yay, poop sisters!).
