No one truly knows the "window of opportunity" after a workout...you might hear anything from 30 minutes to 2 hours. I personally do similar to your strategy and it works quite well: Finish workout at 6:30am, 7am shake with protein/carbs, 8am... (more)

Meat, animal fat, eggs, sweet potato, potato, olives/oil, avocados, coconut, nuts (macadamia has the best qualities and highest in calories). Basically high fat and starchy carbs are your best bet on the paleo diet.

can you gain more muscle mass doing say 135 pound dead lift 50 times for multple repetitions, or sets of 30 chest flys? or squating 135 50 times, etc
