Hello, I started the Paleo diet roughly 30 days ago. I am doing it to lose weight to try improve my PCOS symptoms. I am aiming to eat 1200-1300 Cals a day - which is 200/300 less than my calorie intake to stay the same weight. I am finding... (more)

On the days I don't eat chocolate or other raw deserts, I average about 1200 calories (coming mainly from meat, veg and berries). I feel good, I have plenty of energy and mental clarity and I'm not hungry. I reckon that's a pretty good metric for... (more)

I have been eating low carb paleo with a once-a-day eating window something like the Warrior diet idea. I have been doing this for weight loss and blood sugar control (have had a couple blood draws that show me in the pre-diabetic range and I want... (more)

I don't think there is any harm in it, especially since you still have some weight to lose and you say you're feeling good. On a daily basis, I burn 1000-1200 calories from running. I started doing it while I was quite overweight, and I would... (more)

As long as I keep my protein high enough, shouldn't I be able to still make gains in the gym even if I am cutting and low carb(<50 carb, daily deficit of 500 cals)? Also, not only should I be able to make gains, shouldn't I be able to make... (more)

Carbs are a tool that can be used or mis-used depending on goals and other dietary factors. I'll offer up some personal anecdotes to build off what has already been said. I typically train in a fasted state and do any and all carb intake is... (more)

How does one juggle eating enough fat on the paleo diet while also staying at a caloric deficit to ensure weight loss? From what I understand, even when eating a high fat/protein, low carb paleo diet consisting primarily of meat/poultry/fish and... (more)

If you are eating a diet primarily consisting of fat and protein you can start to trust your appetite to govern your calorie intake, instead of having it confused by refined-carbohydrate induced sugar rushes. Calorie counting wasn't invented... (more)

Looking for suggestions on what a reasonable amount of calories would be to consume while doing Crossfit 5-ish times a week. I'm a lean-ish (12& bodyfat at 116-118 lb.) female and I'm currently consuming around 1300 calories a day, with around... (more)

Calories don't matter (I know I'll get downvotes for that, but that's the truth). You need to make sure you're eating enough food that provides you with the energy to do what you want without catabolizing your body. The only way to know that... (more)

I think answers will vary between "You'll lose weight too fast" or "your body will go into starvation mode" or something like those answers. I'm not sure how much I'd believe that particular bit of advice or those kinds of answers - yes, calories... (more)

You are likely in deep ketosis, which will suppress your appetite utterly. When I first went very low-carb and was in deep ketosis, I was accidentally only eating 900 calories because I was not at all hungry (or so I thought). Eventually I passed... (more)

Frankly, I think you are starving. With your energy output which is naturally built into your everyday, your size, weight and stated difficulty gaining weight, I think you need to rethink what you are eating. You mention "yeast/candida." Why do... (more)

Are you still losing body fat/have more yet to lose? If you are, I wouldn't worry so much that you have a low appetite. Your stored body fat is being mobilized, and supplying the calories you need. Things might even out on their own. 5'6" and 150... (more)

In theory it should be somewhere in between. You need to consume more calories than when you were losing weight because your body was previously making up some of the deficit by burning more fat than it was storing, and now you want it to even... (more)

Lower carb = less need for sleep. In ketosis I can get away with 5 hours of sleep. That would never happen if I raised my carb intake past ketosis.

I wouldn't waste your cash unless you are desperately trying to lose/gain weight. Remember that protein is very satiating so if you eat a lot you might feel more full then you actually are and you could be slightly undereating. Unless your... (more)

My math skills are laughable. I'm currently 140 pounds at 12% bodyfat. I'm going to do a protein sparing modified fast for two weeks (ala Lyle McDonald's RFL). For those two weeks, I will be on a 1,200 calorie deficit. 2 weeks = 16,800... (more)

IF all 4.8 pounds of weight loss were fat, and that's a huge "if," then at 135.2 pounds after the two weeks, if you still had the same lean mass as before (88% of 140 pounds = 123.2 pounds) then you'd have 13 pounds of fat. 13 pounds / 135.2 = 9.6%. (more)
