Hey all, I don't know if I'm going to word this right because I'm not 100% sure about the question in the first place. Basically I feel like I've inferred some of this from other posts but haven't seen anything that discusses it directly. Onto... (more)

In theory it should be somewhere in between. You need to consume more calories than when you were losing weight because your body was previously making up some of the deficit by burning more fat than it was storing, and now you want it to even... (more)

Hello, I started the Paleo diet roughly 30 days ago. I am doing it to lose weight to try improve my PCOS symptoms. I am aiming to eat 1200-1300 Cals a day - which is 200/300 less than my calorie intake to stay the same weight. I am finding... (more)

On the days I don't eat chocolate or other raw deserts, I average about 1200 calories (coming mainly from meat, veg and berries). I feel good, I have plenty of energy and mental clarity and I'm not hungry. I reckon that's a pretty good metric for... (more)

I have been eating low carb paleo with a once-a-day eating window something like the Warrior diet idea. I have been doing this for weight loss and blood sugar control (have had a couple blood draws that show me in the pre-diabetic range and I want... (more)

Walking is so low-impact, imo, that you were probably utilizing fat stores more than food stores and if you're really overweight, that's a great thing. I usually have a 300-500 calorie deficit on top of my 1000 cals deficit a day (to lose 2 lbs a... (more)

As long as I keep my protein high enough, shouldn't I be able to still make gains in the gym even if I am cutting and low carb(<50 carb, daily deficit of 500 cals)? Also, not only should I be able to make gains, shouldn't I be able to make... (more)

So how many calories are you all targeting in order to achieve a surplus? I have a hard time getting above 2500 on workout days and at the number I'm usually stuffed all day. I'd love to see what someone's menu looks like on a surplus day. (more)

How does one juggle eating enough fat on the paleo diet while also staying at a caloric deficit to ensure weight loss? From what I understand, even when eating a high fat/protein, low carb paleo diet consisting primarily of meat/poultry/fish and... (more)

Occasionally, I track my food intake on Cronometer (there are other sites). I don't do it all the time, but once in awhile to see where I am. This means keeping track of your food intake, but isn't an exact thing. I don't weigh my food, but will... (more)

Hi All, I've been pretty strict paleo for ~2.5 weeks now and have seen some decent progress as far as how I look and feel. Definitely feeling less bloated than before. I was gluten-free for about a month prior to going full paleo, so these first... (more)

I went from 220 to 183 today so I suppose the weight parameters are similar. I think your diet looks very short on meat, I ate 3-4 times a day with fish or meat in 3 meals. I never had grilled anything! During my weight loss I avoided starches and... (more)

DinoStake, First you need to identify your goals. Are you trying to maintain? Increase mass? Just be healthy regardless of weight? etc. Once you have identified your goal, start to eat to maximize your goals. As you eliminate sugar, dairy,... (more)

I'm trying to gain muscle mass (NOT lose fat), and I know you're never supposed to have a caloric deficit on the days when you lift, because obviously then you can't gain. Yesterday, I lifted in the morning, and then I was totally on track with... (more)

In my opinion, keep doing what you would normally do. The damage, if any, is probably already done, and chances are that any additional calories on your rest day would just become fat. (Assuming you're eating the optimal amount in your regular... (more)

Looking for suggestions on what a reasonable amount of calories would be to consume while doing Crossfit 5-ish times a week. I'm a lean-ish (12& bodyfat at 116-118 lb.) female and I'm currently consuming around 1300 calories a day, with around... (more)

I would experiment and see how you feel. If you are constantly tired, you should up your daily calories by 100 and see if you feel better. Keep adding calories until you feel that you can fully recover and the you do not fizzle mid-WOD. Also... (more)

My math skills are laughable. I'm currently 140 pounds at 12% bodyfat. I'm going to do a protein sparing modified fast for two weeks (ala Lyle McDonald's RFL). For those two weeks, I will be on a 1,200 calorie deficit. 2 weeks = 16,800... (more)

IF all 4.8 pounds of weight loss were fat, and that's a huge "if," then at 135.2 pounds after the two weeks, if you still had the same lean mass as before (88% of 140 pounds = 123.2 pounds) then you'd have 13 pounds of fat. 13 pounds / 135.2 = 9.6%. (more)

You are likely in deep ketosis, which will suppress your appetite utterly. When I first went very low-carb and was in deep ketosis, I was accidentally only eating 900 calories because I was not at all hungry (or so I thought). Eventually I passed... (more)

I wouldn't waste your cash unless you are desperately trying to lose/gain weight. Remember that protein is very satiating so if you eat a lot you might feel more full then you actually are and you could be slightly undereating. Unless your... (more)
