Carb Backloading Questions
Just wonding if I could get people's thoughts and advice on carb cycling? 18 months ago I lost of lot of fat (over 20kg) eating ketogenic. I put it all back on after my wedding and now eating that way results in my feeling really lethargic and... (more)
Hey, so I'm wondering, what should you have in a post workout meal if you follow Nate Miyaki's or John Kiefer's nutritional protocols of eating the majority of carbs at night, ASSUMING you train fasted in the early morning? I'm just curious... (more)
Most of the time I eat lower-carb. 2 meals per day, <40g per meal from veggies and the occasional nuts/legumes. I do periodic carb-ups sometimes timed around workouts, sometimes the night before, and sometimes just because. I have no... (more)
I have just restarted intermittent fasting after an extended break, however this time I have combined it with the anabolic diet purely for experimental reasons, in an attempt to turn my body into a 'fat-burning machine'. Despite the wellbeing... (more)
If you are trying to be anabolic, then staying in calorie restriction will defeat the purpose somewhat. As to carb refeeds, go with clean starchy sources. Fructose is labeled a carb, but is more of a hybrid as it is turned into a lipid (fat) by... (more)
A recent question drew my attention to Nate Miyaki, and he's seems pretty legit to me. He seems to be recommending quite a bit of starch for people that lift weights. However, he seems to recommend that fats be kept very low when feasting on so... (more)
I believe it is because carbs raise your insulin levels which promotes fat storage. Thus if you don't have much fat in your blood, it cannot be stored in fat cells.
All in the title. Do you keep it paleo, or go the Kiefer route? I personally do some raw goat's milk with grass-fed whey and a big handful of dates... then about an hour later a sweet potato with honey and a big portion of meat.
Does anybody know if carb-backloading post-workout for muscle gain only works if you are keto the rest of the time, or can it still have benefits at around 150 grams of carbs per day, i.e. more of a "maintenance" daily carb intake?
I'm planning to start carb backloading (with paleo carbs). It seems pretty straightforward (from his website): Limit carbs in A.M. Lift heavy weights (ideally late afternoon/evening) Carbs during dinner His carb-backloading book (pdf) is $57.... (more)
Hi all, I found paleo/primal through Leangains, which was a good success for me and taught me a lot about good food choices and nutrition. I'm now keen to optimise health through eating predominantly paleo/primal, but would like to keep some... (more)
I've about finished my 10 day carb-fast and I'm gonna backload tomorrow night. I'm not ready to go crazy and eat pizza, ice cream, and cookies like Keifer suggests. I'm planning on loading up on white rice, potatoes, and occasional fruit.... (more)
Hey Hackers! I've been hearing about Kiefer and his carb-backloading. It makes sense and I'm interested in trying it out. However, I can't train in the afternoon/night due to work so I train in the mornings. I heard that there is a morning... (more)
Just concluded a 90 day monitoring of my blood sugar. Sampled 3x a day: Morning (dawn) FBS (average: 90) 2 hours after lunch (average: 85) Bedtime (average: 81, 79 when I throw out a 'couple benders, but even a whole bottle of wine can't get my... (more)
You don't have Dawn phenomenon, your blood sugars are completely normal. Blood glucose spikes due to the Dawn phenomenon are perhaps an order of magnitude higher than what you're experiencing. As to your question about higher morning blood... (more)
Hi all so I have been doing IF for about a week or two and love it. I have decided to start carb back-loading as well. I usually train (crossfit 5-6 days a week) in the morning and as I understand it that's not the optimal time if you are doing... (more)
Hey fellow PH'rs, I've got a few questions regarding the topics of IF/fasting in general, carb backloading, and the role of MCT's and BCAA's. I've been following the typical 16/8 protocol for the past few weeks, as well as low carbing it (roughly... (more)
