This past Saturday I wanted to have a glass of wine with my friend. I have been on paleo for 2 weeks and was feeling great. We'll that one glass of wine turned into a couple glasses and some beer as well :( I also binged on some pretzels and sugary cake. I feel horrible and disgusting and I am up 3 pounds. What can I do to loose this water weight and get back to feeling great and happy?

I have been trying to drink water and I run about 4 miles a day.

thanks

Yes. Do not dwell, do not fret - just get back on the wagon.

I wouldn't ever call it a cheat... unless you look at paleo as a diet. Paleo is a lifestyle and with any other lifestyle you need to allow yourself the occasional indulgence. Paleo lifestyle is intended to improve your quality of living but what improvement is there if you are always depriving yourself? Recognize it as an occasional indulgence, respect it as an occasional indulgence, and continue with your paleo eating when you are done.

One thing you'll need to get your head into as well- and you don't necessarily do this but a lot of dieters do- is figure "well I just ate a crappy meal I may as well continue and start fresh tomorrow". If you had a crappy lunch make dinnertime paleo again. Don't wait until tomorrow because that'll just push your sugar cravings further.

If you're feeling like you're having a hard time getting on track try starting your day with some extra fat. MCT oil, grassfed butter, avocado... etc to start your day. If you start your day by only feeding your body fat then you should have an easier go at managing food choices for the rest of the day.

Good luck! :)

I cheated a lot when I first started and I paid for it every time. I overate every single time and always felt incredibly sick after (gluten sensitive here). I've found that it's much harder to resist snacking, cheating, and overeating if I even eat one bad thing. Around Easter I ate a single dove chocolate and for a day or two I could not stop thinking about desserts and how I could make them paleo, I was snacking on paleo chips nonstop (kale, plaintain, etc). As much as it sucks, probably the best thing you can do is resist the temptation to cheat as much as possible. It's impossible to be perfect, so cheating will happen, in that case just drink water and wait. Just remember how you feel right now and before you dive into a beer and cake, ask yourself if it's really worth it to you. I also have some Heather's Peppermint Tummy Tea that I drink when my stomach is upset, it seems to help some.

Go back to paleo. I did the same thing, a few days ago and I just drank a lot of water and went right back to paleo. It worked the best for me, after a day I'm feeling great and closer to how I was before the cheating.
