Bananas in autoimmune protocol

by (40) Updated April 05, 2012 at 3:10 PM Created March 21, 2012 at 1:55 PM

Greetings! I have celiac disease and RA, I am of the autoimmune protocol. The doctor advised me to avoid coconuts and bananas, as they are distant relatives of some grains. Has anyone heard about this, something to tell? What is your reaction to bananas, coconuts and coconut oil? Thank you!

Yesto, I have also heard to avoid coconut products for the autoimmune protocol. I haven't heard that about bananas, but I will do some more research. Also, my brother follows primal and has Celiac. Without being aware of the protocol, he eliminated coconut products and felt immensely better after he did. I suspect he had an allergy or that coconut products aren't the best for people with autoimmune disorders.

Good luck.

Coconut and banana's are both fairly common allergy wise - I would test your reaction. I don't know about them being "distant cousins" of grains, that sounds fairly absurd, but there is some credence to his suggestion. If you want to consume coconut oil guilt free go for the refined stuff.

What? the coconut is a nut. just like your doctor. tell him you want your money back and kick his ass out the door. I.... am trying to figure out if bananas are good or not, as I have sudden urges to eat many but I don't want to raise my estrogen levels at all.... damn life for complications....
