Hey guys, I am starting a version of PHD for depression. They say to get 600 calories from carbs and protein and the rest of it MCT fats. I am doing IF and eating my meal of 5 eggs and 2 sweet potatoes at 8pm to help my sleep. My main question is HOW am I gonna get all these MCT fats in? I calculated on Cron O meter that I will need 12 tablespoons or more too have 2000 calories. I just started bulletproof coffee and added in 2 tbsp to it. Should I add more or will too much at one time make me sick? Thanks guys sorry for the jumble. This is my first post

You dont need bile from the gallbladder and lipase from the pancreas to absorb the oil if it is MCT, thats the whole point of them being readily absorbed by the intestines you stupid fuck. Read the statement next time.

Um, Mr. Shit-for-brains, it's not a "weak gut", it's the lack of a gallbladder.

Yeah just about everything out there has side effects. Specially for people who are frail, like the elderly or the sick. I've never experienced any of the above symptoms. Full disclosure, I do prefer other oils like olive, butter and lard mainly for flavor reasons. I don't like coconut oil taste that much....

http://www.webmd.com/ - "MCTs are safe for most people when taken by mouth or given intravenously (by IV). They can cause diarrhea, vomiting, irritability, nausea, stomach discomfort, intestinal gas, essential fatty acid deficiency, and other side effects. Taking MCTs with food might reduce some side effects."

MCT Oil is well known to cause diarrhea and intestinal discomfort. Tolerance is different in all people

Maybe you have a weak gut. I practically chug oil and don't get "leaky oily shits". Plenty of pancreatic lipase to go around here. Sounds like you have a case of malabsorption.

Eggs have very little fat. You'd have to eat a ton of eggs.

I guess well see. This woman on the article apparently reaped some benefits going up too 12 tbsp a day. Well see what happens I guess

There's limited ability to absorb anything. Why does Magnesium act as a laxative? Why does vitamin C in large doses? The thing is MCT is going to give you leaky oily shits, sounds unpleasant to me. Hope there's no leakage!

I'm not sure on the science, but I can attest that too much MCT oil will put you on the pot

Hmm that's interesting to know. There kind of my go to food so it would be heartbreaking to get a sensitivity to them

Good point. The only time I had bathroom issues with coconut oil was when I first had a tablespoon of it. Now i'm good

I read it on this forum the other day in a search but of course can't find it now. It happened to me with pistachios and someone I know with bananas. I did the slow carb diet for about 2 months and had eggs every morning, I didn't develop a sensitivity but I couldn't even smell them for a few months after.

I thought MCTs were directly absorbed through the small intestine without the need for pancreatic lipase and bile salts. If so, then why would one spend time in the bathroom? If your statement is correct wouldn't this completely go against claims that MCTs are readily absorbed by the intestine without the need for bile and lipase?

600 calories protein and carbs the rest fat? How can that be possible?

I suppose, what do you think of this ladies experience with coconut oil? http://www.deliciousobsessions.com/2012/10/lets-get-personal-how-coconut-oil-has-been-helping-me/ Would the diet have the same effect if I upped the protein and had some beef? or would it ruin ratio's?

Be careful with eggs, you can get burned out on them very quickly, and some people develop an intolerance after eating them a lot. healthy fats: coconut milk, olives, macadamia nuts, salmon, tuna, avocados, butter or ghee, almonds, almond butter, cacao butter, ect

True, I just figured when he said healthy fats he meant oil type fats. I could always increase my egg intake that would count as fats would it not?

Coconut oil mayo. Use a hand blender for easier emulsification and organic refined coconut oil, an egg or two, and some mustard, salt, lemon juice. Put it on everything you eat. Easy to do, everyone loves mayo.

I dont have any MCT oil just coconut. It is better because of the lactic acid, I have down 4 tablespoons at once before on my potatoes so I guess I am fine for large amounts, I was just curious if anyone else does that on this site and how they sneak it in on a daily basis

I agree with raydawg, you'll spent a lot of time in the toilet I made this mistake when I first got started with Paleo/bio-hacking. I take 1 or 2 tablespoons of upgraded brain-octane every day depending on how I slept. I was taking BP coffee with MCT but with the brain octane I feel better.

Um, why? Do you have any idea how much fun you'll have sitting on the toilet for hours??? I don't think you want that much MCT that quickly. Eat real foods.

First, he does not say get the rest of your calories from MCT. He says, "add in large amounts of MCT oil or coconut oil". Large is relative, but it's certainly not 1400 kCal.

On this very site, Paul once said:

http://paleohacks.com/questions/32552/medium-chain-fatty-acids-and-milk.html

How to get MCTs? Cook with coconut oil. Drink goats milk. Add MCT Oil (tbsp is plenty) to your coffee or salad. For the rest, just eat whole foods.

Ah! that's a lot. be sure to cook your eggs in it, put it on the sweet potato, use it in salad dressing, make your mayo with it, add it into a shake, perhaps? you could try the bulletproof "get some" ice cream as well. It's hard to say what you should start on, because people can react to small amounts differently. I started at a tablespoon OF MCT OIL and moved up to two in my bp coffee for a number of weeks, but when I ran out of ghee and used 3 tbls for about 3 days....NOT a good situation.

EDIT: google Paleo fat bombs, those are basically all coconut oil
