Too much Coconut Oil

There's no doubt that I get a sense of clarity and warm, good feeling after eating coconut oil, but recently I've been cooking every meal with it and think I'm over dosing. I'm feeling too clear minded and spacey, like I'm floating. Anyone else relate this to eating too much coconut oil?

It's traditionally excess keratin or bacteria that cause folliculitis. I've been to a couple of doctors and naturopaths. It stumps everyone.

Aw damm...I tried. I was also getting a weird reaction to coconut oil (red face), so I eliminated salicylates for a while but, like you, I didn't react to other high salicylates foods. So I guess it has to be something else.

i believe the clear-minded feeling comes from ketone bodies increased circulation, yes? I've experiencing the same thing during fasting with coconut oil.

salicylate doesn't seem to fit the bill as symptoms resolved when replaced with olive oil which is also high in salicylate.

Paul Jaminet says the ketones it generates can feed fungi, is that what causes folliculitis?

I think that this is the most likely explanation.

Korion, I use too eat that much but I realized it wasn't as micro nutrient rich as other foods and I was essentially eating it just for calories.

I'm still doing it. Nothing gross about it, just handy when you have a mold allergy. I notice that when I eat too much of it at dinner I wake up during the night and feel bad. Now I only eat a lot of the oil in the morning.

I doubt that. I eat something like 150g of coconut oil every single day and I don't feel anything. It just helps my skin.

I have the same symptoms as David if I eat too much Coconut Oil. Too much for me, right now, is about anything over a couple of tablespoons in one day.

Brilliant - between this and the thread about solidifying coconut oil announcing the changing of the seasons, I'm sensing that a certain poetic langour has come over Paleo Hacks. Maybe Patrick will change the rules so that all Hacks must be written in haiku form...

A bit queasy in the stomach, that's what I feel when I get too much coconut oil. Luckily no vomiting thus far.

No, the only side-effects I get from too much coconut is terrible nausea, vomiting and digestive upset.

Coconut oil is a powerful appetite suppressant, and a clear-minded yet spacy-floaty feeling is a commonly reported state during fasting or severe calorie restriction. (I have personally experienced both effects first hand.)

Are you making sure that you're eating enough?

I react strangely to coconut oil and I'm trying to figure out why but for the time being am off of the stuff. It give me brain fog and causes a case of folliculitis I can't shake to flare up hella. The coconut oil I'm using is cold-refined so it shouldn't be a reaction to allergens in the oil. It could be something MCT/liver related but I'm going to go without for a few months then 'll add it back in... Of course the one substance nobody talks ill of, I react poorly to.
