I'm going to veterinary school, and I do not believe in grains since my total paleo success. The problems must be amplified for dogs/cats. Lately (as I'm a veterinary technician now!), I hear the vet refer to a cat who vomits, has sores in it's... (more)

My pups (German Shepherd and Siberian Husky) are grain free, they went Paleo when the rest of us did ;) We feed them Acana Pacifica, it's grain free-- it's stinky (it's made from wild caught fish) but they LOVE it. My dogs' coats look amazing... (more)

I know dogs are not people, but I figured it cannot hurt to ask... I have a 13 year old dog who has been super hungry for the past three years (all tests/bloodwork/thyroid are normal..spent a fortune at the vet). Reading all the human posts, I... (more)

Recently I read an article suggesting that dogs may have helped modern humans out-compete neanderthals. I eat up stories about neanderthals and their demise. If there's a dog loving gene, I don't have it. I am most definitely not a dog person. I... (more)

I was always a "dog person," but I never understood what it really meant to work with your dog and to depend on one another. Herding is mimicking the hunt, you just don't bite it or kill it when you catch it. It's been said that early man... (more)

Or at least why doesn't the meat from other meat-eaters (carnivores or omnivores) feature very heavily in modern day diets? Is eating carnivores Paleo? Off the top of my head I think of dogs (Koreans) and snakes (in parts of the mid-west and... (more)

I would assume a big reason for this is work vs return. Carnivores tend to be reclusive, travel large distances in smaller packs, and weigh much less. It is much easier to track and selectively kill animals from a herd of buffalo for instance... (more)

Have there been decent studies about what commercial dog food products produces the healthiest dogs? Or pet food for other pets? Does anyone know of generic commercial dog food that wold appear healthy (according to 'paleo' standards)? Would it... (more)

I favor raw food for my dog; it's cheap ($1/lb) and he's incredibly healthy on it. It makes sense from a Paleo perspective to feed your pets an evolutionarily appropriate diet. That said, there are few to no studies of raw food diets for pets,... (more)

We just purchased a Lab and I haven't owned a dog since I switched to a Paleo lifestyle. After reading many of the posts on here regarding raw food diets for dogs, I am a believer. First of all, thanks to everyone for such good info. We pick up... (more)

You should go cold turkey. Don't mix kibble with the boney meal as there is a digestion time difference. Nothing needs to be frozen to kill parasites. You can't just feed boney meals (necks, backs etc), offal and eggs. They don't need much offal.... (more)

About three months ago my 72lb lab was diagnosed with diabetes. We tried the cheaper Science diet but his blood glucose didn't do well on it. Then switched permanently to Royal Canin HF which is their dry diabetic food. We feed him 2.5 cups twice... (more)

Sweetpotatoes, I suspect this is totally doable - but since I've never dealt with a diabetic dog, I can't speak to that. You may want to track down a holistic vet so you can have support for the diabetic issues while you transition. Here's how I... (more)

Hey guys, haven't posted for awhile. Anyways, I'm tired of seeing my dog with the runs and not feeling well, he is a great dog and doesn't deserve that. Currently I'm feeding him "organic salmon" based dry food. Which is probably garbage. I've... (more)

Short answer? Yep. Feed him crap, he's going to feel like crap. At the very least get corn and soy out of his diet, but there are also very affordable grain-free foods on the market. My old silky terrier had terrible skin and bladder issues... (more)
