Eating Disorders Questions
Hello all, Apologies for the length of this. Need some advice about weight loss and what I might need to do different to start losing. I???m a 39 year old male and have gained and lost the same 160 (!!!) pounds since the time I was in my... (more)
I know, it's always weird to post your body pics and ask random strangers what they think about it, but I really need honest opinions. I'm not an attention seeker. The thing is, mirrors lie to me. http://postimg.org/image/unatlbqp1/ (more)
I need help. I figure it's best to be really honest here. I am trying to recover from unhealthy eating patterns. Mostly binge eating, sometimes anorexic eating, and a history/tendency of purging (that part's pretty rare now, but still runs... (more)
Paleohacks is the main forum I post at, so I realize that this may be more of a Paleohacks thing than a Paleo thing. But I am getting seriously disturbed at the amount of eating disorder talk that goes on. To clarify, I'm not talking about people... (more)
Very disturbed as to what the user above has to offer on the subject and I hope it is not indicative of the kind of people that frequent the site...
i eat about 1000-1200 calories every morning, so i eat a lot of bread and peanutbutter. In fact in the morning i pretty much only eat bread and peanutbutter. Im a teenager, five five, and about 113 pounds. i have lost ten pounds since i began... (more)
Ok so this might be a bit long. I'll try to sum it up lol. If you read this all I appreciate it. OK so it started off last year when my mom suggested for me the paleo diet because I could not lose weight and thought I was eating healthy... (more)
My husband has been eating a mostly-paleo diet for several months, and has been trying to get me to come on board. I was anorexic about ten years ago and though I am healthy now, I still find myself worrying about calories when I get stressed out.... (more)
I was there in the same place once. Looking back I think the advice I would give, if you were serious about going paleo, is to go slowly. Make the changes to diet slowly. Check out the feedback your body will give you.
Hi. I have some questions about recommendations for a healthy diet plan for myself. I do yoga, crossit (daily) an occasional mile run and I'm also in therapy for recovery from my Eating Disorder. I've been advised to seek a nutritionist so I'd... (more)
Hi everyone! So I've been struggling with BED for years now, and the episodes have become more and more frequent over the past few months. I eat pretty healthy on a regular basis, and then go into these maniacal eating sprees where I can scarf... (more)
I have an eating disorder (ED-NOS: bulimia, anorexia, binge/purge, orthorexia). I went Paleo 9 months ago, thinking that eating whole foods (plenty of fat, meat and low-carb veggies) and intermittent fasting would restore my hunger/satiety signals... (more)
At 25.7 BMI why do you NEED to lose weight? This is slightly overweight, not morbid obesity, and not enough to raise any health concerns. Don't obsess over it and drift back into disordered eating. Just figure out how to maintain.
I'm hoping someone can give me some input... A little background on me: I'm semi-recovering anorexic/bulimic (that hurts to say out loud). Before starting Paleo I had lost about 25-30lbs, admittedly not in the healthiest way, and then stumbled... (more)
This is a bit personal, but I have wanted to reach out for a while now about this topic, and after reading another post on here about Eating disorders, i thought it might be ok. My question is for those who have experience with an eating... (more)
I love and believe in eating paleo. I love discussing nutrition, hearing great advice, and feeling better about my food choices and having motivation to accomplish my goals. I love the sense of community and I love the "regulars" here! I think... (more)
If you have or are recovering from an ED, stay away from all food-related sites. You need to develop a good relationship with food that does not involve restricting or the notion of good/evil foods. Best of luck.
Last summer, I began my road to recovery from an eating disorder. I did extreme caloric restriction + long hours of exercise. As I slowly increased my calories and cut back on exercise, I ate probably around 3000 on SAD and gained weight slowly.... (more)
For a while I had an eating disorder and got down to a dangerously unhealthy weight (88 lbs at 5'3") and developed amenorrhea (didn't have a period at all in 2011). I started eating more (non-Paleo at first, then began Paleo around September) and... (more)
Hello! I have been told by my doctor that I need to be gaining at least 1 lb per week until I am not underweight. I am currently 5'0" and 88 lbs due to eating issues while on paleo. I am in college and my doctor could force me to withdraw if I... (more)
It is my understanding that Paleo has been demonstrated to be beneficial to those with diabetes, so hopefully my train of thought isn't too far off here. I'm curious as to how the Paleo diet ("diet" meaning how one eats, not necessarily as a... (more)
Isn't this really just subbing one type of counting for another? I don't think there is anything wrong with calorie counting (you know that) sometimes, it's just what the brain needs. If you are serious about not counting, you have to not count... (more)
I think we all are. Right? At least to some extent. Initially I thought this was a joke. But apparently it's not. Now people that eat healthy have a mental disorder. http://www.naturalnews.com/029098_orthorexia_mental_disorder.html (more)
A disorder would be if paleo made you socially isolated or malnourished (like many raw vegans or macrobiotics). If you aren't an asshole about being paleo and you eat plenty of good paleo food, you don't have to worry.
Ok sorry for all the questions! I don't have access to a nutritionist, and I question their knowledge considering most encourage the SAD diet and gov myplate crap, and I've had two duds in the past. Anyways, I'm 15, 5'7", female, and 107-110... (more)
EDIT: So I've tried to increase calories this past week, but I really feel full on my current amount of food. I've also been tracking nutrients, and according to Cron-O-Meter I'm hitting about 80% of my requirements, with mild deficits in... (more)
Your metabolism is probably low right now to be on that number of calories and maintaining (or are you losing?). I'm sure you'll be getting comments about how your weight is "fine" but it is not just about the numbers. You're feeling run down,... (more)
So I just met with my school health services trying to get exempt from the school's meal plan. I explained that my Dr. has recommended I go on a grain, legume, dairy and vegetable oil free diet (the truth!) and that it is impossible to eat that... (more)
Hello! I just had my cholesterol measured for the first time the other day, and as my situation is a little messy, I thought I'd post to see if anyone might have some thoughts. I'm 23, 5'6", and currently 120 pounds. Dealt with a mild eating... (more)
Have you ever battled anorexia nervosa (AN)? What has worked for you in overcoming it? To what extent have effective AN treatment been medically or dietarily treated vs through psychotherapy and body image cognitive treatment? Of course they are... (more)
So... I will be starting counselling for an ED soon. Mainly binge eating, with a history of bulimia and anorexic eating. Mostly binge eating, though. That is the main problem I have now. I'll also be seeing a nutritionist. I've looked up the... (more)
In the last few weeks I've seen some behavior that I find worrisome. I have developed some real reservations about some of what happens on the site. I've seen people who are showing signs of eat disorders being encouraged to fast. I've seen... (more)
While ultimately, we are all responsible for doing our own homework, I also think that we are each also held responsible to only give advice in a public forum with limited information on any one person that is broad and fairly generalized. No one... (more)
