I am not sure if this would apply to your situation as this is normally seen in anorexics or people who have been starved for prolonged periods of time - but this sounds like "refeeding syndrome". The edema is a common sign of this. I too get... (more)

Being low on potassium can cause water retention. Coconut water is a good source. I like to buy the young coconuts, but the tetra-pak stuff is becoming increasingly easier to find. I seek it out if I suspect that's why I'm puffy. Steer clear of... (more)
