I used to take ginseng for energy :) Too much would make me really hyper though.

Our family friend , who is from Malaysia (well, she's Chinese-Malaysian) used to say it was really good for medicinal purposes and would always try to buy a lot to send back home.

It's a good one. Don't take it too late in the day, or on an empty stomach. I drink a tea of it, personally. All adaptogens are energizing, but also give great adrenal support over time.

I just started using a concentrated form of ginseng from a bottle that my mother bought in Korea. You put a gram of it in warm water and mix. Very bitter. I was suffering from terrible jetlag and a cold and was hitting a wall of fatigue that wasn't going away. I started to notice an improvement in my energy after a day and a half and by the 3rd day I couldn't believe how much better I was feeling. So, yes, I would recommend ginseng for energy and endurance.

If you're feeling low energy, my first thought would be that you haven't found the right mix/timing of foods yet and I hope you find them soon; if your energy is good and you're just checking out energy options go for it.

I say that because I feel so good I can't stand myself and if I had more energy I would probably ask for a tranquilizer. Since I am 64 and still fat though losing weight gradually, it's hard to imagine anyone who is succeeding on primal/paleo needing to take anything for energy. Just saying. in past years, I was an endurance athlete on weekends and found that the more I did the more energy I had.

It has been a lifesaver for me before. I don't know if it would take you from feeling normal to extra energized, but when I've struggled with fatigue, particularly hormone related, Eleuthero Ginseng extract has been fabulous. I believe you are supposed to take a break of at least a week after 3 weeks of continued use, and it can take 5-7 days to feel the benefits.

I take all American ginseng or a more focused and less hyper feeling - just long lasting endurance. American ginseng is the way to go, but often a little pricier.
