I need some help getting myself into an exercise routine. I've been working on my diet for the last year and now that I have that in line, the next thing is exercise. I'm not so much wanting to exercise for weight loss or for body image reason,... (more)
I'm a big fan of Mark Sisson's approach to exercise (see below). I think it's a really "less is more" kind of thing. You need to be active in general (as much low and slow as you can do), but what you have to do specifically as "exercise" is a lot... (more)

I love mountain biking. The last two weekends I have been out on my bike, for about four hours (with a few breaks) each time. It's quite intense exercise, but I feel capable and fine at the time. Afterwards, I get very hungry and eat a... (more)

Does anybody know the ramifications of exercise with alcohol in your system? I completely understand the concept is horrible. The reason I ask though is that a few years back, I used to play soccer on a team that always met up for drinks before... (more)
How necessary is exercise in living a paleo lifestyle? Is it sufficient to simply eat paleo foods or are there greater benefits by adding short intense exercise sessions into daily life?
I have found that carrying around small children, up to age 5 or so, rather than putting them in a stroller, is a tremendous workout! You can put them in your hands, on your side, on your back, etc. Even two at a time. Needless to say, the kids... (more)
I'd second the benefits to the baby. I carried both of mine in a sling from birth in the shawl type one which they lie in at first but very soon sit on your hip. One of the main benefits of this is that they are at almost head height which means... (more)
I've recently noticed that on days when I perform "high intensity" exercise (either heavy compound weight training or sprints) I end up with insomnia and toss and turn the whole night. I've been paleo (plus pastured butter and cheese) for a year... (more)

I've heard a lot about strength training in a fasted state (mostly good things), but not so much about aerobic exercise in a fasted state. Are there similar benefits for the latter?
I know, I know. I sound like a lazy bum. But: I'm allergic to exercise. It has a fancy-pants name, called exercise-induced urticaria [ever-reputable wiki link: link text]. I find that some days, just walking across campus is enough for me to... (more)

I would say it's cortisol. Cortisol levels rise and then fall an hour or two after exercise. I've experienced the same thing. Hour or two of sitting around, and it goes away after.
I try to work out about 5 days a week (hour to hour & half), cross-training mostly (as it's winter). Each workout is somewhat different from the previous (to prevent boredom). I eat probably the 80% paleo (more or less), been roughly 6mos... (more)
