Hi. I am currently having bad diarrhea and it has been lasting for almost 4 weeks now. (I have episodes like that every 3 month, for about 13 years, nobody could ever figure out why, they never lasted THAT long though) anyway that is not the topic though. I am in an online support group about Hashimoto becuase I have a significant amount of antibodies as well as being mildly in the hyporange. ( t4 and t3 is low but allegedly still in the "normal" range so thats why I do not take meds even though I have all the classical hypothyroid symptoms exhaustion, fatigue, weight gain, freezing, depression). Since my diarrhea was so bad I wanted to go on a fast but everybody in the group convinced me that it would be very unhealthy and that I should fast for a maximum of 48 hours. After I did the first day without eating last saturday, the diarrhea disappeared but the day after was simple hell. I am already slow because of my thyroid or by nature or whatever but I was th eepitome of slow motion and depression. I could barely move and pretty much lay on the couch all day. Thats why I didn´t cntinue and had a meal. On the next day (monday) I had a meal at noon and one in the evening and thats when the diarrhea started again so bad I could not even sleep but had to run to the toilet. I think that I should fast longer so it really stops but everbody keeps on telling me fasting wreaks havoc on the endocrine system and since the second day was hell like I said, I was scared and stop. But then again, I am thinking. Healthy people suffer two on the 2 or third day so maybe thats just a passage to go through? Does anyone have an idea how long I could fast? 3 days? I thought about getting bone broth 2 times a day, and for the rest water and tea? Ideas? Expertise? Opinions? I know that Dr. Kharrazian recommends fasting for three day at least but then all the other autoimmune experts seem to say its unhealthy.

I never had success with any form of diet for hashimotos
LDN has been amazing though... my TPO went from 2500 to 450... and i believe it will be lower on my next labs
thanks Laura! I am actually getting natural thyroid next monday, it was such an ordeal to only learn that such a thing exists. Whats a fat fast?
first of all, if you're having Hashimoto's symptoms, regardless of what your labs say, you should start taking desiccated thyroid. Stop the Thyroid Madness has more info on this. You're not being treated correctly until your symptoms are relived substantially. Talk with your doctor and share your research with them, let them know that this is the course you want to take.
I have Hashi's and fasting does relieve my symptoms, but may not be viable in the long run. I would suggest fasting for two days and see how that feels, if it's bad, perhaps try a fat fast.
