<p>I love tracking shit. Because of that, I've been tracking how popular the "paleo" idea has been the past couple years. My business is spending too much time on paleo websites, and business is good! Here are where popular paleo websites rank out of all domains on the internet:</p> <p><img src="http://oi40.tinypic.com/oz020.jpg" alt="alt text"></p> <p>Here are things I've noticed: while "paleo" has been getting more popular, the top few sites have become mega more popular. This includes sciency sites, recipes cites, and this weirdo site called paleohacks. Also, I noticed that some awesome sites don't have as much traffic as I'd expect (e.g. thatpaleoguy). What strikes you about these rankings? Note that very few health/nutrition websites that are actually useful are in the top 1,000. Mercola is #500...I know he ruffles feathers for many, but he at least doesn't offer standard advice.</p> <p>Note that this ranking is based on the flawed Alexa methodology, and not all sites are included because of difficulty gathering info.</p>

<p>The surprise for me is that PH is at 8,000 yet many of the others SHOULD appeal to the PH community and are much lower. I mean, we link to those sites all the time in our PH threads.</p> <p>I check Melissa, ThatPaleoGuy, J Stanton, PHD, etc., every day--where's everyone else going? Or, is the problem that I visit PH a dozen or more times per day and the others only once or twice?</p> <p>Ouch, I'm getting a headache from all this thinking ...</p>

<p>Making top 100K is quite an accomplishment for an individual. That's really cool. I checked Mark's last summer and it wasn't at 2,000 then. It's growing fast.</p> <p>Sites that get a lot of comments move through rankings much faster than just blogs. Both MDA and PH get repeat customers all day so it makes sense that they move up. </p>

It seems fitting that MDA would make the top; pretty much everyone I know that does paleo (myself included) began with the Primal Blueprint. Mark is really exceptional at presenting information in a digestible way. His is the only blog I read every single day.</p>

<p>Someone just posted a comment on my site saying how wrong I am because Dr. Kruse's traffic is growing and mine isn't. <a href="http://slashdot.org/story/07/07/23/152243/the-real-problem-with-alexa" rel="nofollow">Alexa</a> isn't that accurate, but even if it were, I think this is exactly why I made a big deal about Dr. Kruse getting spots at PaleoFX, Paleo Summit, and AHS. It's a great way to drive traffic to your site. </p>
