Can anyone recommend minimalistic footwear for the office that will be worn indoors and on blacktop/concrete with a lot of walking, in Florida, and during the summer?

Basically, Im looking for the ultimate business minimalistic piece of footwear and there is so much stuff out there I am looking for an ACTUAL users findings. Please and thank you in advance!

I wear the Puma Drift Cat racing shoes. They're really thin so you can feel the pedals when racing, but they make really comfortable everyday shoes and the sole is really thin. You can feel the lines that are painted on the road when you walk over them.

I like Sanuk's Sidewalk Surfers. I don't know how strict your office dress code is, so they might not be ideal, but they're really light and feel great.

I like the New Balance Minimus. It is a running shoe but it fits like a glove. They come in black so you might get away with wearing it in the office.

I am not a user of it, but would like to try the VIVOBAREFOOT Ra for my next dress shoe. They just need a good deal on them. Minimalist shoe that looks like a classic dress shoe. There is also a brand recently launched or working on being launched called the Primal Professional. Both are priceyish options, but if you have a strict workplace, they are the closest thing I have found to traditional dress shoes. I wanted to wear black Vibrams to school, but was told it wasn't allowed. I thought black would look okay with a shirt and tie.

I've been wearing the Vivobarefoot Dharma black exclusively at work 5 days a week for almost a year. Still going strong. Everyone in the office knows I experiment with minimal shoes and no one suspected these were anything other than dress shoes. I highly recommend these, great ground feel, good tobox/width and office approved. They have a brown version too, but I have yet to try them myself.

I like the Merrell Barefoot Tough Glove. They look fine for casual business use, are zero drop from heel to forefoot, have a wide toe box, and have a vibram sole with good traction.

Melissa McEwen has a review of the Merrell Wonder Glove on her blog, HuntGatherLove.com. It sold me - I just ordered a pair! They look much more dressy and less sporty than most minimalist shoes.

This Steve Madden "Grab" driving moccasin (http://www.stevemadden.com/Item.aspx?id=53101&green=93700F6A-9553-54BA-9C22-89C329B29615) is one of the most comfortable work shoes I've ever worn. Not minimalist, but very little heel lift, extremely flexible forefoot and soft leather. They also generate quite a few compliments. Probably readily available and reasonably priced. Good luck.

My office has made great concessions for me, so I am unable to give you anything if your office requires "professional" shoes. There are, IMO, no minimalist or barefoot shoes that would pass as "truly professional"... for example, in a bank or lawyer's office or something that requires 'business' or 'business dressy' or 'highly professional' wardrobe. However, for myself, as a regulatory professional and medical editor at a major medical center, I have been wearing Vibram fivefingers Sprints in black, ZEMGear Playas in black, and Sockwa Dojos (grey/black and pink/grey--but I -am- a female) in the office AND for all of my "out of office" activites for going on 3 years, including riding my motorscooter, in Houston, in the middle of summer.

Hope that helps -- oh, and as for the heat issue... your feet DO toughen up over time. I had to stop letting my companion talk me into pedicures, because after a while, while I stopped getting huge callouses, I realized that the soft, sort of leathery feel to the bottom of my feet was a necessary part of my transition to being "less shod" -- what I DO NOT recommend, EVER, is going BAREFOOT on asphalt or any variant thereof in the summer in the south -- I learned that the hard way... Asphalt melting to the bottom of your feet definitely leaves very painful blisters!
