Vegetarian (true vegetarian) for 13 years, tried veganism, raw foodie for a while etc. Anyhoo, I became interested in the Paleo diet particularly since my husband has been suffering from a mysterious intestinal disorder for many years and terrible acid reflux (he takes a Prilosec every day and has been for 2 years)--we've been trying to find a solution to his problems so he's cut out wheat, dairy etc. As for me, giving up bread/crackers/etc. wasn't a big deal since I have tried all sorts of dietary styles. Here's my dilemma--left to my own devices, I am a veggie girl at heart. He's been out of the country for 2 weeks now and I think I ate some fish one night, and then I did make a chicken (we raise our own livestock), but it has taken a whole week for me to eat it. I'm just not really that into meat. If he cooks it he likes to cook), I'll eat it, but that is pretty much it. I won't eat meat from a store or restaurant (except a fish, I can't grow a fish), and although we have a freezer full of goat, sheep, and chicken, I just don't really care about cooking it for myself. THoughts? Is this a bad thing? I do not eat any processed food either and really never have.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/117896/not-much-meat-for-me/117898#117898 Answer by Renee for not much meat for me Renee 2012-05-08T00:25:31Z 2012-05-08T00:25:31Z
So don't eat meat if you don't want to. I'm not all that into meat either but my husband pressure cooked a venison roast and I was all up in that.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/117896/not-much-meat-for-me/117902#117902 Answer by Paleo Bliss for not much meat for me Paleo Bliss 2012-05-08T00:30:06Z 2012-05-08T00:30:06Z
I think the protein from meat sources is important..if you can bring yourself to do it. Maybe you could add it soups, hide it in stews, etc... ?
http://paleohacks.com/questions/117896/not-much-meat-for-me/117905#117905 Answer by Alan for not much meat for me Alan 2012-05-08T00:40:20Z 2012-05-08T00:40:20Z
The key problem with heartburn/gerd is carbs/grains. Taking Prilosec will actually make his underlying digestive issues and health, worse.

Here is a great article on GERD. http://chriskresser.com/what-everybody-ought-to-know-but-doesnt-about-heartburn-gerd
http://paleohacks.com/questions/117896/not-much-meat-for-me/117908#117908 Answer by foreveryoung for not much meat for me foreveryoung 2012-05-08T00:52:45Z 2012-05-08T00:52:45Z
I think you're probably fine as long as you're eating some. like 4oz a day is a good amount to have.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/117896/not-much-meat-for-me/117912#117912 Answer by Sunny Beaches for not much meat for me Sunny Beaches 2012-05-08T00:58:43Z 2012-05-08T00:58:43Z
If it's the texture that is bothering you, could you try to make meat an "accent" in the meal? For example, you can shred meat and put it in a casserole with lots of veggies and maybe some starches as opposed to a steak on its own with veggies as sides. For me, red meat was the hardest for me to enjoy. I didn't enjoy eating it in say, as a giant steak, but I like it better ground up into a sauce mixed with lots of vegetables.

It might make it more palatable for you if it is cooked with stuff, rather than standing alone as the main course.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/117896/not-much-meat-for-me/117920#117920 Answer by monaLisa for not much meat for me monaLisa 2012-05-08T01:54:13Z 2012-05-08T01:54:13Z
I was the same way. I have been a vegetarian for 20 or so years sometimes adding seafood when I get anemic. I never realized it before but I was always so tired. I just started eating red meat, and let me tell you it has been a battle. I realized I hate the taste of beef, but like bison meat. I have been doing the cooking so that is even more of a battle. Next step is to add organ meats, yuck. Let me tell you I feel a lot better. I have more energy and alomast get a buzz when I eat the red meat. It has taken me 3 months to get to this point. I started with chicken and fish. Then pork. It is best covered in a lot of sauce. Slow cooked or pulled is good too. Most important listen to your body. If your body tells you it doesn't like meat then don't eat it, but don't mistake psychological issues with meat for your body telling you it is not right. That's what I did for years.

Finally look into the possibility your body is having trouble digesting the meat. I think this is part of my problem. I added in some supplements to help with that and we will see how that works.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/117896/not-much-meat-for-me/117922#117922 Answer by AG for not much meat for me AG 2012-05-08T01:57:06Z 2012-05-08T01:57:06Z
If you WANT to eat more, putting it in soups and stews would be the easiest.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/117896/not-much-meat-for-me/117959#117959 Answer by Wayne daniels for not much meat for me Wayne daniels 2012-05-08T06:53:18Z 2012-05-08T06:53:18Z
Paleo and vegeterians dont and shouldnt mix.
