Flip 2012-05-25T08:40:11Z 2012-05-26T00:55:28Z
Hello,

I find myself often eating vegetables from regular produce. The market regulations in Europe are stricter than in the US, and some chemicals may not be used here, despite the fact that since i live in a peripheral country, the produce is still not fully industrialized and pesticide usage is not so widely promoted.

Nonetheless, do you can recomend some homemade solution to spray/dunk the vegetables, in order not so much to clean the dirt, but to minimize possible exposure to chemicals, pesticides and such?

Thansk in advance
http://paleohacks.com/questions/122275/regular-vegetables-any-washing-solution/122317#122317 Answer by MathGirl72 for Regular Vegetables: Any washing solution? MathGirl72 2012-05-25T13:38:19Z 2012-05-25T13:38:19Z
I fill the sink with water, add apple cider vinegar, and sink the produce into it. For leafy greens, I swish them around bit and rinse them really well before putting them into the salad spinner. Everything else, I just rinse off. I do this immediately before using the produce. If I am cutting up the veggies for the week, I dry them off really well before cutting so they are stored without any extra water.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/122275/regular-vegetables-any-washing-solution/122323#122323 Answer by blueballoon for Regular Vegetables: Any washing solution? blueballoon 2012-05-25T13:43:29Z 2012-05-25T13:43:29Z
I have a spray bottle with a mix of water and white vinegar and spray conventional produce with it before eating. I generally rinse after the vinegar spray because, well, I don't want my apples to taste like vinegar.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/122275/regular-vegetables-any-washing-solution/122350#122350 Answer by Tyler F for Regular Vegetables: Any washing solution? Tyler F 2012-05-25T15:15:05Z 2012-05-25T15:15:05Z
My solution is to just not buy foods on the dirty dozen unless they're organic or I can peel them. Besides that, a rinse in water and peeling the outer layer are good enough for me. It seems like anything that would survive peeling would survive washing, anyway.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/122275/regular-vegetables-any-washing-solution/122483#122483 Answer by Langope for Regular Vegetables: Any washing solution? Langope 2012-05-26T00:55:28Z 2012-05-26T00:55:28Z
to be picky, organic does not mean pesticide free; in europe, each country has its own regulation on that and spain is very laxest since they use chemicals which would be forbidden for organic label in other countries.
