<p>Hi All- I am looking for some help. I have 1 year old twins, I could not breastfeed past 3.5 months as I had only a trickle of milk so we had to use formula (was organic but we have only recently fully embraced paleo so we didnt follow a westen formula or anything like that). Now our pediatrition has said since they are 1, no more formula but to use goat milk. Anyone else have any other options? Asked the doc about coconut milk but he said it was 'a fad'. Advice?? Thanks so much!!</p>

<p>I don't buy into the "kids must drink animal milk" BS. If they are eating a well-rounded diet, they are getting what they need, especially if you are including coconut oil and coconut milk. Also, your pediatrician needs to be educated on the benefits of coconut milk.</p>

<p>Contact your local <a href="http://www.lalecheleague.org/webindex.html" rel="nofollow">La Leche League</a> and they'll help you out with resources including moms who donate their own breast milk. They'll also help you to start breastfeeding again, if you wish.</p>

<p>Frankly, I think goat milk would be superior in this case as compared to coconut milk. After all, your children are still essentially infants. While I'd be the first to say that coconut is very healthy and beneficial, coconut milk, in itself, is a processed food, and does not hold a candle in nutrient makeup to mammalian milk, and I don't have to convince you that real milk is the ideal food for infants.</p> <p>However, your children are a year old and probably are not fed exclusively formula at this point. But if your original intent was to extend breastfeeding beyond one year, I'd say goat milk (NOT ultra-pasteurized) and/or a homemade formula--as someone else mentioned--would be the next best thing. </p>
