HuntingBears 2012-06-19T21:55:03Z 2012-07-22T19:49:56Z
I think I've figured out how to stick to paleo, basically I drench all my food in butter and if I'm still hungry I eat butter on its own. I've noticed that this seriously fills me up and the idea of binging on fruit or chocolate goes out the window!

Can anyone see any downsides to using butter to stick to this lifestyle? It tastes amazing, it's pastured, and today I feel possibly the best I have so far on paleo which is still not 100% but getting closer!
http://paleohacks.com/questions/129059/is-butter-a-good-way-to-sate-hunger/129061#129061 Answer by borofergie for Is butter a good way to sate hunger? borofergie 2012-06-19T22:13:35Z 2012-06-19T22:13:35Z
I don't see a problem (as long as you are eating things other than butter).

Our ancestors who probably ate all of the fatty parts of the animal (including the brain and bone marrow), so they were much getting more fat than you can just from eating comparitively lean cuts of meat. Check out the pictures on Kurt Harris' blog:

http://www.archevore.com/panu-weblog/2011/4/7/lean-grass-fed-bison-images.html

So I guess that it's fine to supplement with a bit of dairy fat. I do more or less the same thing with heavy cream. I'd much rather get my energy from saturated fat, than refined carbohydrate. The longer that you do this, the more difficult it becomes to turn down any source of fuel. I hated cheese before, but now I can't resist it.

If it makes you feel good, then it probably is good.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/129059/is-butter-a-good-way-to-sate-hunger/129062#129062 Answer by JayJay for Is butter a good way to sate hunger? I'm up to 6-8 tbsp of ghee a day. A coffee with ghee and mct oil in it in the morning keeps me satisifed until dinner (when I get all my non-fat-bourn nutrients for the day). I don't even think about food.

I actually sit with others while they eat lunch because I need to converse with them, but their food never interests me.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/129059/is-butter-a-good-way-to-sate-hunger/137356#137356 Answer by Mia for Is butter a good way to sate hunger? And a bit of 100% dark chocolate and a very occasional fruit. I feel really great. It's a bit pricey. I SURE hope ALL of this fat I am consuming is very good for me as they say!
http://paleohacks.com/questions/129059/is-butter-a-good-way-to-sate-hunger/137361#137361 Answer by RaiseFitness for Is butter a good way to sate hunger? I personally go with grass fed pastured butter for higher Omega-3 and CLA. For people trying to lose weight, it can be a source of a lot of calories, so they might not want to go overboard with it. Also, I find protein to be the most satiating.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/129059/is-butter-a-good-way-to-sate-hunger/137362#137362 Answer by foreveryoung for Is butter a good way to sate hunger? foreveryoung 2012-07-22T19:49:56Z 2012-07-22T19:49:56Z
I disagree with everyone on here. Butter, being pure fat, does not boost insulin or leptin, both of which help you to feel psychologically full. It is also extreme low volume/calorie, which makes it even less physically filling. So, no, butter is not filling in comparison to most other foods, in particular protein and starch.
