<p>Well I'm moving to New York to study art in August. And I'm dorming and have had to pay for a compulsory meal plan. :/ Does anyone living there/who has been there know how accessible it is to stick with a Paleo (maybe even GAPS) diet? Oh, and I live in London at the moment.</p>

Salad bar was always available and it typically had some type of "grilled" meat. You won't get to grass-fed organic, but you can certainly stay away from grains and sugars. </p>

<p>I live in The Bronx(the hood). It hasn't been difficult for me. Theres a nice farmer's market in union square(14th st.). Plus theres a bunch of whole foods n trader joes. I buy in regular supermarkets though n im doing just fine. <p>first off, congratulations and welcome to nyc! from my experience, it depends on the size of the school as to what their cafeteria selection will be like, but i agree with CD that the salad bar is always a good option with hardboiled eggs and bacon for breakfast. you can always supplement cheaply with tinned fish, too, as long as your dorm-mates don't wretch at the smell. </p>

<p>My daughter attends NYU and the meal plans are pricy but for the most part she was able to eat pretty healthy (she's not Paleo officially but she eats very healthy). She never gained that freshmen 15 she was worried about. Now a days the NY universities are numerous and they are pretty good about healthy food options, you should be ok for the most part. </p> <p>I'm not sure which school you are attending but your meal plan usually covers 2 meals day, so that 3rd one can be used for off campus dining to get something more paleo in your day if needed. </p> <p>NYC is pretty full of good and fast options of all varieties, you should be ok!!! Fresh food markets in parks, you'll get the routine figured out quickly!</p> <p>oh she just returned from 2 semester in London at the campus there and she said it was much easier to eat healthy in London, so it might be a slight adjustment at first for you!!!</p> <p>good luck!! </p>

<p>NYC is a very easy place to eat paleo. The Green Markets (most popular one being the Union Square Farmer's market) has great produce, some of the farmers cannot claim to be organic but do note that that don't spray their apples or what have you. Raw cheese is available there, but expensive (if you do dairy) but raw organic cheeses can be found in most supermarkets in the city anyway. If you know what neighborhood you'll be living in, I could give you some more local hot spots. My favorite is Bare Burger - it is a small chain of all organic, grassfed burgers, which of course, you can get with a lettuce wrap. The local WAPF chapter can help you locate more raw dairy if you are into that. Is your dorm a straight up dorm room or a studio with a kitchenette so you can do some of your own cooking? Oh and there are a few places, if you can't cook, that have roasted organic chickens ready made, others just have antibiotic free rotisserie chickens, but you can find straight up organic ones too. Those are great for a hot meal and then loads of leftovers and bones for broth (again, if you have any cooking materials allowed). Have fun and welcome to NYC!!</p>

<p>I'm at NYU and honestly the city is probably the easiest place to eat paleo. There's never a shortage of veggies, fruits, whatever- whether you buy from Whole Foods or a street vendor.</p>
