Very light cycle for years now bled for 9 days on Paleo? Low Carb Love 2012-07-19T23:56:57Z 2012-07-20T13:31:29Z
I used to have a very light (almost non existent) menstrual cycle for years. I'm a bit concerned now that I've bled for 9 days since going on Paleo... I went to the doctors and I am having a blood test in a week, but I was wondering if this is something I should worry about? I was hopeful that my period was returning but this seems to have gone on for too long and now I think there is some serious problem with me!
http://paleohacks.com/questions/136743/ladies-very-light-cycle-for-years-now-bled-for-9-days-on-paleo/136747#136747 Answer by coffeesnob for Ladies... Do you have a history of eating disorder, or dramatic weight loss? Have you recently added more fat into your diet? I don't know what's going on but I can share my personal experience with amenorrhea and heavy menstruation.

At a lower BMI, I had very light/non-existent menstrual cycle. On Paleo, I started eating more fat and gained a bit of weight. I went through a few months of heavy menstruation, which later normalized.

Maybe it's your body getting back to normal/healthier. But see your doctor.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/136743/ladies-very-light-cycle-for-years-now-bled-for-9-days-on-paleo/136749#136749 Answer by LastingOne for Ladies... I don't know if it would be ethical for me to even suggest what it is and why it is happening. I do feel safe in saying that your hormones are undergoing a major re-balancing.

Do you have any other symptoms like excessive cramping? How is your sleep and exercise?
http://paleohacks.com/questions/136743/ladies-very-light-cycle-for-years-now-bled-for-9-days-on-paleo/136817#136817 Answer by Kelleil for Ladies... It seems to be the experience of many ladies that going paleo reveals hormonal issues, doesn't cure them. But seriously, progesterone cream is the bomb.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/136743/ladies-very-light-cycle-for-years-now-bled-for-9-days-on-paleo/136822#136822 Answer by JeJ for Ladies... Another possibility, is the increase in omega 3's- my mom already had a heavy flow, but when it was fishing season and she was eating seafood three meals a day, she was would bleed a LOT more. It wasn't until she got her hormones sorted out that she could get it under control (then they got out of control again, but that's a whole different story).
http://paleohacks.com/questions/136743/ladies-very-light-cycle-for-years-now-bled-for-9-days-on-paleo/136887#136887 Answer by DanielleO812 for Ladies... Hopefully I can share my experience with you so you can save some $$ :)

His first questions:

1) Have you recently gained or lost weight? 2) Have you changed your diet lately? 3) Have you changed your exercise routiene? 4) Are you overly stressed?

If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then it's perfectly normal to see changes in your period. If the answer is no, it's still likely this might be a fluke. My period lasted 11 days and then just ended after years of only lasting 4 days (very light).

I'd hold out for a few days and if you don't stop bleeding then maybe see a physician, but these flukes do happen. Try not to worry - these things happen.
