I have been slowly converting to paleo ever since I got pregnant and had my son. I made all of his baby food from scratch after he got off of breastmilk and through that time I myself was trying hard to get off bread and sugar. Now that he is getting older (he's 3 now) it has gotten a little harder but we've actually managed to stay paleo EXCEPT for one little problem...dairy. I have stopped consuming it considerably but I just feel like since he's still little he needs it. But now I feel like he's having way too much. He eats at least 3-4 cheese sticks a day and it seems like he is going to the fridge every hour and getting himself a glass of milk. He also eats at least one Greek yogurt cup a day. I am so guilty for buying those. What should I do? Is it safe to get him completely off dairy at such a young age? Or is dairy okay and he may just be having too much? He has no health problems or irregularities yet but I don't want any to form.

Just make sure you're buying good quality dairy. Find yourself a good source of grass-fed milk and cheese.

She has done dairy....then grows and switches, then dairy again.....then grows and switches. Try keeping a little diary and observe anything else you see, I found dairy bodily growth and protein ( or a short virus of some sort) development leap such as speech or co-ordination. I don't worry she has shown me her body is far more intelligent than me!

I mean beyond garbage stuff, and even then, I tend towards some leniency. If he likes the milk and cheese, and he isn't allergic to it, just buy as good of quality dairy as you can, and try goat milk and cheese.

I have had friends who have raised kids vegan, or raw foods diets, and they tend to instill an unhealthy food paranoia in their kids. I think it's better just to offer healthy choices, talk about healthy eating, and not worry too much when they make bad choices.

I know your son is only three now, but you'll save stress later if you are more relaxed now, and focus on just empowering him to make good choices. My mom started fasting me when I was eight, because I was overweight, and the doctors at the time didn't know better, but it fucked up my relationship with food for years. Food should be a happy daily event, not a constant concern. Kids are very intuitive to our moods, even if they don't understand them.

I you are in the states, seven stars creamery is grassfed whole milk yogurt without any thickeners, if you
Like the Greek texture just strain it. Lifeway makes
A whole organic kefir and supposedly
All their dairy is from pasture farms. Ideally you would be using raw grassfed milk so check out the WAPF for local raw milk sources. Dairy is a healthy, nutrient dense source for young children. Probably
A bad idea for an adult trying to
Lose weight but milk is great for small growing bodies.
Get the crap out of your kids diet and don't turn food
Into a source of anxiety.

Nne of them have gotten a taste for milk (including our own goat milk, which I like in coffee).

Yogurts and many cheeses are in some sense converted- we make family activities out of making yogurt and sour cream.

I think it is fine. There are some few specific cheese brands or types they react to, so you might want to journal that. That is the only caution I would give.
