How come nobody is answering? This is anthropology, my favorite subject! Anyway, I have read the article and totally agree. Thank you for the link. I wonder if those 44,000 year old people were happy in their Paleo world.

I don't see the use of beeswax or gum from a tree as evidence of agriculture? It doesn't say that they GREW the castor oil beans to get poison - probably had just observed how toxic they were.

It shows a marvellous grasp of using poison to assist in hunting - though I'm not sure that I'd want to eat a bison full of ricin.... and it DOES increase the likelihood that any animal that the spear stuck in would stop running.

No, it won't. This shows that a modern culture that is still hunting and gathering is much older than we thought.

Furthermore, it shows that the modern idea that "civilization" began with agriculture is untrue. The cultural practices we think of as "civilized", ranging from representational art to monumental architecture, all predate agriculture...and this is just one more piece of evidence for that.

It's an interesting piece of news...thank you for bringing it to my attention!
