Hey Guys,

I have had major digestive issues, and some other nonsense, so I am considering trialling robb wolfs auto-immune protocol, or an approximation of it.

Because of my gut issues, my list of foods is already somewhat limited, so while eliminating eggs, dairy and nightshades shouldnt be too problematic, I struggle with cutting out the few nuts I can eat (list - walnuts, brazil, macadamias)

I just wondering, how effective say, a 24 hour soak of nuts, might be at removing lectins?

Id ferment things but cant really do that with my condition.

I have had major digestive distress like you, and adding nuts to the avoid list was vital. Not worth the pain!

The issue with nuts is not so much about lectins and phytic acid, it's the storage proteins, which are highly cross reactive to gluten.
Since you have an already compromised gut, it's likely you are gluten sensitve. Therefore I really suggest you cut out any nuts, coconut, coffee, pseudograins, maybe even berries etc. because of the seeds in them. (The list actually goes on, try to avoid anything derived from seeds/nuts/kernels if problems persist... yes even olive oil that is made from crushed olives may contain seeds store proteins.. you see.. no so easy)

I have celiac disease and further got a colon perforation at the time of my celiac biopsy so I have had very touchy guts for the last few years as I've healed up. I also avoid nightshades to keep joint aches and hives (from tomatoes) under control. I have found that I can tolerate a little tomato cooked in some foods but all-out marinara sauce is a very bad idea for me. Likewise, a potato now and then isn't too big of a deal but more than a couple a month and I'll start feeling like an ooooold lady. Of course, ymmv, but if I were you (based on what you have shared) I would just do the most thorough elimination diet I can at the time, if that includes some nuts for now, still give it a try, then eliminate those too if you aren't seeing the results you need. You also might want to look into how brazils and macadamias are harvested and treated. Some of those tropical nuts go through extensive processing before they get to us as consumers so soaking them at that point can be redundant. good luck!
