<p>My dear neighbor has a husband who has a massive big hernia next to his prostate. It is as big as a volleyball. He has been told that because of his age he shouldn't get it operated on. But I know it is bothering him a lot and possibly hurting even though his wife was told he probably doesn't feel anything. If he didn't have any surgery could it hurt him more or not? Just a concerned best friend.</p>

<p>This question is probably out of the scope of most people on this site, including myself. He should get a 2nd and 3rd opinion. An anti-inflammatory diet can ONLY help him.</p> <p>Although not really hernia-related, I would recommend he take a zinc supplement and beta-sitosterol from pine to decrease the size of his prostate. This might take off some of the pressure, if there is any. </p>

<p>Is he unable to communicate on his own? How is it that you are sure it bothers him, his wife is unsure, and his doctor is sure it doesn't? FWIW, my father-in-law had a surgery on his neck that his doctors were unsure if the risks outweighed the benefits. He has had numerous issues as a result and wishes he'd not undertaken it. Had he elected to not have the surgery, he could very well be dead at this point (and he still regrets going through with it).</p>
