I'm an active man in mid twenties, eating clean paleo, weightlifting, supplementing with various vitamins and minerals.

Recently, I decided to do a complete hormonal blood work. Everything came out perfect (Testo, free testo, estradiolm progesterone, SHBG, T3, free T3, T4, free T4, insulin, adreanaline, nor-adrenaline, cortisol, serotonin, grwoth hormone), BUT DHT (Dihydrotestosterone) is higher than norm: 1300 pg/ml vs. maximum of 990. I reseached it a little and found out that it's usually related with either baldness or prostate enlargement. First certainly has nothing to do with me, but I was diagnosed with slightly enlarged prostate couple of years ago. Also, according to my 23andme test, I have high risk of prostate cancer (21 out of 100). So, I got a quite concerned.

The question is whether you can recommend something in terms of lifestyle, nutrition or anything else to lower DHT short-term, keep prostate and decrease the risk of cancer long-term. Of course, I already read about Saw Palemetto, but wonder whether it's really efficient and suffiecient and whether there is anything else that can be done.

Thank you very, very much!
http://paleohacks.com/questions/141349/dht-dihydrotestosterone-and-enlarged-prostate/141350#141350 Answer by BoneBrothFast for DHT (Dihydrotestosterone) and enlarged prostate BoneBrothFast 2012-08-07T20:04:27Z 2012-08-07T20:04:27Z
Take Zinc Picolinate or Zinc L-methionine.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/141349/dht-dihydrotestosterone-and-enlarged-prostate/156845#156845 Answer by daz for DHT (Dihydrotestosterone) and enlarged prostate daz 2012-10-19T23:57:46Z 2012-10-19T23:57:46Z
from wiki;

"The enzyme 5α-reductase is involved in the conversion of testosterone to the active form dihydrotestosterone (DHT)"

"In benign prostatic hyperplasia, dihydrotestosterone acts as a potent cellular androgen and promotes prostate growth; therefore, inhibiting the enzyme reduces the excessive prostate growth"

The same wiki article includes a list of Herbs that may inhibit 5α-reductase.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/141349/dht-dihydrotestosterone-and-enlarged-prostate/156852#156852 Answer by Mscott for DHT (Dihydrotestosterone) and enlarged prostate Mscott 2012-10-20T00:09:55Z 2012-10-20T00:09:55Z
http://paleohacks.com/questions/27631/5-alpha-reductase-saturated-fats-monounsaturated-fats#axzz1pw4hIK8U

Interesting paleohacks question about lauric acid and other fats potentially reducing DHT.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/141349/dht-dihydrotestosterone-and-enlarged-prostate/160113#160113 Answer by John Elli for DHT (Dihydrotestosterone) and enlarged prostate John Elli 2012-11-08T07:04:42Z 2012-11-08T07:04:42Z
It's important to remain active and eat a healthy diet for optimum prostate health. I can see you're into regular exercise and follow a healthy diet. I'd suggest you go through a Super Beta Prostate review – the product boosts prostate health and regulates urinary functioning. Don’t get fooled by Super Beta Prostate review scam – the product contains Beta Sitosterol, a clinically proven ingredient that helps keep the prostate healthy. Continue to eat right and be active – it improves our immune system and will definitely go a long way in helping our system fight against illnesses.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/141349/dht-dihydrotestosterone-and-enlarged-prostate/160125#160125 Answer by jenniferdraper for DHT (Dihydrotestosterone) and enlarged prostate jenniferdraper 2012-11-08T09:09:51Z 2012-11-08T09:09:51Z
I am suffering from prostatic hyperplasia. I have now used Alfuzosin six months. At first, when taking Alfuzosin, I would easily tire and experienced stomach pain much of the day. Now, it seems my body has adjusted to the medicine and I am not as likely to become tired. I still have stomach discomfort but not as severe. One thing I have noticed which concerns me is the fact the Alfuzosin seems to wear off easily and the frequency to use the bathroom has not really disappeared. Overall, the drug seems to work well.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/141349/dht-dihydrotestosterone-and-enlarged-prostate/177030#177030 Answer by Jeff for DHT (Dihydrotestosterone) and enlarged prostate Jeff 2013-01-31T18:52:15Z 2013-01-31T18:52:15Z
I take pumpkin seed oil. It's tasty and i can quickly take a teaspoon a day, or i use it as a butter substitute. On toast or a bagel. On corn in the summer, when i go to the local growers market and get my NON GMO sweet corn.

It is also great in a smoothie or on potatoes.

Here is the best price i've found on it.

Very high in Magnesium and Zinc.

Organic Pumpkin seed oil
