I recently started working until around 10 or 11 pm. I also count my calories just to keep everything in check, I shoot for around 1200 cals. Before I go to work I'll have a meal, but by the time I get home I usually still have any where from 200-500+ cals left and usually am starving. What are some good quick paleo snacks that I can have ready for after work/before bed? Thanks!
http://paleohacks.com/questions/143101/late-night-after-work-dinner/143115#143115 Answer by Judi for Late night after work "dinner" Judi 2012-08-16T17:32:44Z 2012-08-16T17:32:44Z
I like breakfast for dinner when I'm looking for something quick and easy. Few eggs, some leftover steak or whatever leftover meat I have, maybe some avocado or tomato. Quick, easy, and just filling enough.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/143101/late-night-after-work-dinner/143119#143119 Answer by Renee for Late night after work "dinner" Renee 2012-08-16T18:09:44Z 2012-08-16T18:09:44Z
I think dairy is supposed to help you sleep, so IF you do dairy, maybe some kefir or full fat greek yoghurt, berries and almond butter....
http://paleohacks.com/questions/143101/late-night-after-work-dinner/143131#143131 Answer by Tony for Late night after work "dinner" Tony 2012-08-16T18:58:37Z 2012-08-16T18:58:37Z
See this thread too: http://paleohacks.com/questions/34240/eating-before-bedtime#axzz23jeaHURf

My takeaway: if you are hungry at near bedtime, eat someting. Just don't make it carbs.

My unsupported opinion is also that some healthy type of fatty snack (some people recommend milk/dairy) is better than a high protein one. (This might vary if you do an intense workout in the evening.) Protein is more work for the body to digest and I expect that would make it more likely to impinge on sleep quality.

Also consider some form of magnesium at bedtime for better sleep.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/143101/late-night-after-work-dinner/143155#143155 Answer by Lynn for Late night after work "dinner" Lynn 2012-08-16T21:08:00Z 2012-08-16T21:08:00Z
Can you cook enough food earlier in the day to have leftovers? I have the typical salt mine hours of M-f 8-5, I always make enough supper to have enough for lunch the next day.

Snacks I like are hard boiled eggs, homemade beef jerky, cheese slices rolled with salami, an apple with almond butter, chicken salad and green goddess dip (greek yogurt, avo, etc) with veggies to dip.
