Why can eating low carb produce hypothyroidism?

I have been looking around here and haven't really found a specific answer to my question. Why do hypothyroid patients do better with more carbs? What exactly does our body (and thyroid) require them for? I'd like to know the scientific proccesses and if you can provide any links that would he great as well.

I just wanna straighten out why people can get hypothyroid and ways to prevent it by knowing our body mechanisms.
