Paleo food sources in western PA

I've been here for a few months but still struggling to find good sources for Paleo foods. I've got a tiny farmers market that is very hit or miss, or I can drive the hour and a half to Pittsburgh for the Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, East End Co-op trifecta. Anybody know of some other good sources in the area east of Pittsburgh? I'm between Altoona and Johnstown.

Hey, I'm from that area and my brother is still out that way and he has a pretty hard time. He's lucky that he works in State College so he can hit the Wegmans there. Other than that, that whole region is a pretty big paleo void. From what I hear, that Cambria county region pretty much only has Walmart as a grocery option. Sad. I know if you go down the mountain there are some farms and stuff, maybe you can buy directly from them and then try to publicize what you find.

Not quite in your area, but it might be worth it to make a trek to this place now and then to stock up on meat, if you have a place to store it. (North of Harrisburg.) They're doing all the right things when it comes to raising animals. The owners are actually chapter leaders of the Harrisburg area WAPF chapter, so they know what they're doing.

My wife traveled out that way to visit with family. She doesn't even eat paleo but she tries to eat whole foods (i.e. nothing out of a box). She had a real hard time just getting conventional produce out there. You're in the land where everyone eats super-SAD and need to get the electric scooter so they can shop at Walmart.

If I were you I'd buy a chest freezer and make a monthly expedition into Pittsburg for provisions, and try to hit up any farmer's market that you can find. It's too late in the season now, but can you start a garden where you live? A small 4' by 6' raised plot can provide you with a lot of veggies if tended properly. With a cold frame you can get greens and peas for a good stretch of the fall and spring.

there aren't a lot of places near me either and i live in the south hills. i've started ordering my meats from uswellnessmeats. just got a huge shipment in and the quality is just amazing. best tasting beef i've ever had.

i go to the shadyside whole foods maybe once a year since it's about an hour from me. i usually stick to trader joe's for random things like coconut oil and produce. tj's meat/seafood options are pretty lame around me. not a lot of organic or grass fed anything.

They have an extensive food list that includes pastured meat (beef, pork & chicken) & soy free eggs. Also looks like they offer organic veggies seasonally.
