I just went to my State's Fair and was wondering what foods were Paleo-friendly?

Nothing deep-fried, which is a lot.

I had a grass-fed lamb chop on-a-stick. Delicious!

I'm not as strict about it for outings like this and also had some not-so-Paleo-friendly foods:

Chicago Dog (happen to be gluten free)

Frozen Custard

a bite of deep-fried cookie dough

Thanks,
Mark

Other than that, I think it's pretty hard to find descent stuff to gnaw on at a fair.

Pork chops on a stick are pretty tasty out here in Iowa.

http://paleohacks.com/questions/145740/what-are-paleo-friendly-fair-foods/145751#145751Answer by Matt for What are Paleo-friendly Fair foods?Matt2012-08-28T13:37:15Z2012-08-28T13:37:15Z
I had a 'meat parfait' this year at the state fair. It was brisket and pulled pork layered with mashed potato "ice cream" topped with a drizzle of BBQ sauce and bacon bits. I saw somebody with one and had an intense craving for ice cream, thinking it was ice cream, and was quite disappointed to discover it was meat later (I indulged in my first funnel cake in probably 10+ years, so good!). I did end up going back for lunch the next day and it was very good. They also had a chicken split, looked like a banana split - 3 scoops of mashed potatoes, flanked with pulled chicken, topped with a BBQ drizzle and bacon bits. I'd call it moderately paleo, the potatoes were not instant (there were lumps!), it was a lot of meat, the BBQ being the unpaleo aspect, but it's just a drizzle for the "hot fudge" effect.

Otherwise, paleo be damned, I eat all sorts of verboten things at the state fair. It's one day (or actually 3 in my case) out of the year. And I was not worse for wear either.

If you can't get a meat parfait, I'd probably recommend sticking close to the agricultural producers areas. The pork, beef, and lamb producers all had stands selling food. Easy enough to get pork chops, pork bugers, beef burgers, steaks, lamb kebabs, lamb burgers, etc… probably close to the real thing that you'll get at the corndog stand (though I'd recommend a corndog just for fun too!)

lamb testicles - Traditional Middle Eastern dish

Beef Tongue Caramelos (tacos)

Camel Burger Sliders

And maybe it’s good to add some plants to the mix:
vegetable platter (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, celery, green pepper, cherry tomatoes)
