The butter probably aerosolizes in your kitchen and you get it on your skin. You probably smell like bacon when you eat bacon, too.

Thanks for bringing this up, Ben! This issue has been bothering me a bit.

I smell like animal fat when I eat ghee (can't do raw butter due to casein or ?), bacon, chicken, and cooked animal fats. Chicken is the worst. I don't care for the smell. I can cover it up with a coconut oil/essential oil homemade deodorant for only a few hours.

I smell less bad to myself when I eat raw vegan foods. However, raw vegan is not sustainable, as I know from experience. I am experimenting with eating more raw eggs, raw meats, and raw fats and see if that helps me smell better to myself. I am suspecting that eating heated fats is causing the smell.

Also, I take one hydrochloric acid capsule with meals (since my digestion got weak after being raw and mostly vegetarian), and that comes through my skin. Yuck. I think it smells like cat pee. Cheese and dairy comes through my skin smelling sharp and pungent, like stinky BO. Yuck.

Before paleo, and when I ate legumes, I grew and ate fenugreek sprouts because they made me smell like maple syrup. I miss this.

I am being a bit oversensitive about my smell since my lover is a raw vegan (whose natural scent I adore) with a very sensitive nose. I have a very sensitive sense of smell also. I am curious what a paleo eater would say about my smell. Maybe I could then relax about it.

But overall, my strength, endurance, mental outlook, ability to focus, stable moods, sleep, digestion, muscular physique, energy, etc., has improved so much since I started eating paleo four months ago. I am on the right path. But the armpits exuding animal fat smell? I don't like it! However I have noticed that the longer I eat paleo, the scent is gradually becoming less strong and more subtle. I will continue to observe.

Garlic doesn't bother me if I smell it on others, provided it is fresh garlic and not that horrid garlic salt or powder. In fact, fresh garlic has an aphrodisiac effect, I have noticed!

A coffee aroma coming through the pits? It would depend upon how that smell interacted with one's natural scent. It is entirely subjective. Do you love coffee? Do you love the person who is exuding the coffee scent?

Do you smell butter, or smell like butter? The oils in dairy seem to gather quite readily in the pores around my mouth, so if I get any butter on my lips, I can smell it for hours.

Some foods have aromas that will pass easily through the walls of our digestive tract (starting in our mouths) and get into the blood stream quite easily, like garlic, onions, and herbs.

Other food smells, if they get through probably indicates some level of leaky gut, letting too many whole proteins through, and having the body try to excrete them any way it can.

I forget where I read about this first, but apparently when they first had contact with Westerners, the Japanese started calling them "bata-kusai" (butter stinkers): http://www.webexhibits.org/butter/countries-japan.html

I think the fact that all butter produced "back in the day" was naturally cultured probably added to the awesome bata-kusai aroma.... that and the fact that baths were much less common, haha.

If you smell like butter, then I fail to see the problem
