I'm trying to lose some weight. I'm not really overweight, but I do have about 5 more pounds I'd like to lose. I do crossfit three times a week. I'm female. When I first started with Paleo I lost around 5 pounds, but now it has stopped. Any suggestions?
http://paleohacks.com/questions/147330/help-losing-weight-with-paleo/147344#147344 Answer by Robin for Help losing weight with Paleo Robin 2012-09-05T15:04:29Z 2012-09-05T15:04:29Z
On the one hand, three weeks is not very long.

On the other, the last five pounds, for me, were the toughest. Calorie counting is not popular around here, but I never would have gotten rid of the last five pounds w/o calorie counting. I would wait a few more weeks to give your body and your hunger signals time to adjust to your new diet, and then if you haven't dropped any more pounds, you might consider counting calories. For me, cutting a very small amount (only about 100 calories -- not enough to go hungry) made a big difference.

Also helpful for me: adding more activity. Not necessarily more time doing strenuous exercise (although that helps too) but just more time NOT sitting. For me, that means more time at my standing desk instead of my regular desk, jumping rope for a few minutes between other things I'm doing, a short walk, etc.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/147330/help-losing-weight-with-paleo/147359#147359 Answer by patti2003 for Help losing weight with Paleo patti2003 2012-09-05T16:14:22Z 2012-09-05T16:14:22Z
When wanting to lose weight, you really have to have the talk with yourself about whether you're willing to give up enough food to keep it off. Otherwise, it's not worth the effort because it'll just come back on after you lose it. For most people, it's about giving up the snacks, the extra stuff (the paleo cookies, deserts, etc.) so look at that kind of stuff and see if you're willing to give up that. And as Robin said, what else can you shave off and not be hungry? But ask yourself if you're willing to do it for the long term. If not, see if you can be happy where you are. Five lbs isn't much.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/147330/help-losing-weight-with-paleo/147363#147363 Answer by diy for Help losing weight with Paleo diy 2012-09-05T16:25:44Z 2012-09-05T16:25:44Z
I use cron-o-meter
http://paleohacks.com/questions/147330/help-losing-weight-with-paleo/147368#147368 Answer by Diane for Help losing weight with Paleo Diane 2012-09-05T16:50:00Z 2012-09-05T16:50:00Z
I'm convinced by my own experience that I need to find the level of carbohydrate intake that supports me staying in a fat-adapted zone AND rather than reduce calories, I need to do aerobic exercise at a low heart rate such as what is suggested in Phil Maffetone's Big Book of Health and Fitness. The lower heart rate he recommends is supportive of the metabolic state of fat-adaptation. Phil Maffetone does not recommend a low carb diet but he does recommend determining your own optimum carbohydrate intake. His fitness methods appear to me to be spot on for what I have been doing wrong and what I need to do to make real changes. Already I feel 100% better--more energy, more clarity of mind, stronger--and I believe after a very long stall I'm once again losing weight.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/147330/help-losing-weight-with-paleo/147386#147386 Answer by carlos for Help losing weight with Paleo carlos 2012-09-05T18:40:54Z 2012-09-05T18:40:54Z
You have to eat less. This isn't trolling, it's just true. What's your macro-ratio count? Protein is insanely satiating and eating a lot of your carbs right after a workout prevents a lot of the cravings afterward, and promotes muscle growth.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/147330/help-losing-weight-with-paleo/147458#147458 Answer by Meggy May for Help losing weight with Paleo Meggy May 2012-09-06T00:26:50Z 2012-09-06T00:26:50Z
Do some research on GI Load and the GI Index of the foods you eat. This has helped me a tonne! You may find you are eating more natural sugar then you realize, and if not used...well...
http://paleohacks.com/questions/147330/help-losing-weight-with-paleo/147582#147582 Answer by Aaron for Help losing weight with Paleo Aaron 2012-09-06T17:52:19Z 2012-09-06T17:52:19Z
Lean Gains has an article about losing those last few pounds. Do a workout at the end of your fast before eating. I've had weight pretty much melt away doing this, even when eating poorly for a few of the normal eating days.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/147330/help-losing-weight-with-paleo/147776#147776 Answer by Niki for Help losing weight with Paleo Niki 2012-09-07T14:08:40Z 2012-09-07T14:08:40Z
I was going to go on the Atkins (within paleo guidlines) to get the weight off but I got really busy at work and was getting home really late. I noticed I was skipping meals especially dinner and all of the sudden after about a week and half of this I decided to weigh myself thinking I had stayed the same and I had actually dropped a good 5lbs. I really think with the Paleo intermitten fasting it is natural for the body to flush out the burned off fat. Also I wasn't snacking as much on nuts. I think if you are to cut the calories it definitely needs to be on nuts they can stall weightloss easily and really if you only cut back a handful it won't feel like much. Good luck!
http://paleohacks.com/questions/147330/help-losing-weight-with-paleo/147830#147830 Answer by Savage Paleo for Help losing weight with Paleo Savage Paleo 2012-09-07T18:31:10Z 2012-09-07T18:31:10Z
If your having trouble, I would go very low carb. Do 2 meals a day very high in fat and protein. You need to get your body to enter a state of ketosis. Long term I wouldn't suggest this but if your looking to drop weight it's the way to go.

If I try to lose weight I just eat eggs, chicken, grass-fed beef, butter, etc. Change up your fat to carb ratio. More fat (meats, coconut oil, butter, etc) less carbs from sugar (fruits) and starches (potatoes).
