DROP THE GRAINS. Give it 2-8 weeks and get back to us. Grains are not food and they're not paleo. Really.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/14970/flatulence-and-bloating/14974#14974 Answer by Jay for Flatulence and bloating Jay 2010-11-29T22:59:14Z 2010-11-29T22:59:14Z
Lactose intolerance?
http://paleohacks.com/questions/14970/flatulence-and-bloating/14977#14977 Answer by Laurie D. for Flatulence and bloating Laurie D. 2010-11-29T23:28:54Z 2010-11-29T23:28:54Z
I think the first thing one should cut out when going Paleo is grains. There are lots of things that can cause gas, but grains would top my list, especially with bloating involved as well. Try cutting them out for at least 2-3 weeks straight - no cheats - and see what happens.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/14970/flatulence-and-bloating/14978#14978 Answer by Paul for Flatulence and bloating Paul 2010-11-29T23:46:00Z 2010-11-29T23:46:00Z
That mention of "dessert" is also ominous. Dessert could have any number of bad things in it: grains and sugar, for one. But there's also the possibility of chocolate? Lots of paleos love dark chocolate, of course, and I sometimes eat 90% or 100% cacao. But in my own self-experimentation I've determined that it can in fact lead to some bad smells on the other end, so to speak.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/14970/flatulence-and-bloating/14991#14991 Answer by W8liftinmom for Flatulence and bloating W8liftinmom 2010-11-30T03:54:47Z 2010-11-30T03:54:47Z
Hubby and I are pretty darn strict paleo and we still suffer from flatulance occasionally. He notices it most when eating pork and cruciferous vegies.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/14970/flatulence-and-bloating/14992#14992 Answer by MikeD for Flatulence and bloating MikeD 2010-11-30T04:09:26Z 2010-11-30T04:09:26Z
First and for most, grains are gonna get me every time. Stomach discomfort, sick stomach, gas, gluten causes all those things.

Corn which doesn't have the same "gluten" perse still gives me a lot of the same effects but without the gluten intolerance reaction.

Beyond that, over indulging on protein will also make me feel 'unwell' particularly a super large helping of steak.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/14970/flatulence-and-bloating/14994#14994 Answer by Resurgent for Flatulence and bloating Resurgent 2010-11-30T04:22:46Z 2010-11-30T04:22:46Z
Its grains.. grains.. grains. I quit grains completely after 50 years of grain intensive diet with daily rampant flatulence. Now, only after 6 months of paleo, free of gas, even a small amount of grain causes me to explode. I could be a special case, but anecdotal evidence points to this over a wide range of population
http://paleohacks.com/questions/14970/flatulence-and-bloating/15021#15021 Answer by sophie for Flatulence and bloating sophie 2010-11-30T11:45:46Z 2010-11-30T11:45:46Z
I don't eat any grains and still get gas. I finally worked out it might be from drinking some of my homemade probiotics (water kefir and kombucha) or fermented vegetables which have not fully fermented yet- eg they still have some sugar in, which the bacteria in your gut devour and then excrete gases. I should add though that if done properly (e.g. fully fermented) such probiotics should decrease flatulence, not increase it! (so it might be an idea...)
http://paleohacks.com/questions/14970/flatulence-and-bloating/15047#15047 Answer by wjones3044 for Flatulence and bloating wjones3044 2010-11-30T16:31:27Z 2010-11-30T16:31:27Z
The foul-smelling stuff is often a product of bad bacteria in the small intestine that feed on refined sugar and grain sugars. Eliminating grain products and sugar will eliminate foul-smelling gas. That is my working hypothesis and in my n=1 studies, this has been proven conclusively. (Insert smiley face.)

Some vegetables will lead to gas, and milk products as well. But the poisonous, really awful stuff (plus bloating and so on) really says "grain" to me. Incidentally, even the smallest quantity will do it. A bit of starch is a ton of food for bacterial populations in the gut.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/14970/flatulence-and-bloating/15059#15059 Answer by Simon for Flatulence and bloating Simon 2010-11-30T19:53:23Z 2010-11-30T19:53:23Z
Be careful with nightshades too, I find that not only do I have an intolerance for grains but also for anything from the nightshade family including tomatoes, eggplant and all peppers.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/14970/flatulence-and-bloating/15075#15075 Answer by Stephen for Flatulence and bloating Stephen 2010-11-30T23:13:02Z 2010-11-30T23:13:02Z
Thanks for the replies guys,I think the ultimate culprit is definitely grains. When I say I eat grains and dessert these are a rare occurrence,I follow the 80/20 rule!I always find my stomach is bloated and gassy around lunch time after eating something unpaleo. I'm going to if tomorrow till dinner to see if there is any improvement.

I've been taking inulin and magnesium before bed too but still feel 'packed up'!I'll see if that improves too!
