Hey all! I am wanting to know what the best breakfast is. I am not looking for recipes, but am interested in knowing not just what you eat for breakfast, but more importantly, why you are eating this.

I am 21, 5'4" and 120lbs. I am not looking to gain or lose weight. Just want to stay healthy. Do you have specific breakfast eats that help keep you in good health?

Right now I eat either 3 scrambled eggs with a side of fruit or berries and a coffee. I like to put organic valley half n' half in my coffee, but sometimes just like it black too. Other days I just eat one of those Chiobani Greek yogurts and toss in few berries and nuts on top.

( I am not totally paleo. I cave in and eat toast with Almond butter on it a couple mornings as well, and also am known to splurge on hot cocoa or mocha lattes with whipped cream in the fall and winter time. I drink a protein shake callef Myofusion after weight training too. But I know these things aren'y the best, so please do not give me a lecture about the damage they can do.)

Ha I just said "nut snack!" I eat pretty late and heavily when I do. I think I may be an intermittent faster. Still a newb, trying to wrap my head around all of this fabulousness.

I eat one of two different breakfasts depending on what my previous day's food intake was. One of the breakfasts is strict paleo, and the other isn't even almost paleo. I do, however, eat everything for a reason, so this should help.

Breakfast Option 1.
* 120 grams of meat and and 25-30 grams of nuts: I first read about this from Charles Poliquin a couple years back, and here is the reasoning for it. "The meat allows for a slow and steady rise in blood sugar. The nuts provide a great source of healthy smart fats that allows the blood sugar to remain stable for an extended period of time." Also, protein is high in tyrosine which increases mental focus (among other things). I typically eat this between 3 and 4 days out of the week, typically alongside a coffee.

Breakfast Option 2:
* around 70 grams of fish (sardines or salmon) with some cottage cheese (I get Friendhsip 1% no salt added, which has 13 grams of protein and only 4 grams of carbs per 113g serving). I toast 1-2 slices (20-40 grams) of sourdough rye bread to act as a vehicle to get the protein in me, and also to create a good blood sugar response (protein releases insulin, which helps drive glucose into the muscle cells when you are insulin resistant. This is the reason why you often hear the mantra to "eat protein and carbs together"). If I eat this breakfast and it is not a carb ref feed day, I will not eat any other starchy or fruit carbs for the remainder of the day.

I did so for the following reasons:

A high protein, low carb breakfast kept hunger away for many hours

My partner doesn't like this diet so it was the only time I could eat offal

Lately I am eating salads with meat or fish for breakfast. Same reasons as above, plus:

I can exercise at lunch easily after a salad, even if I eat my breakfast at 10 or 11AM.

Sometimes I save my breakfast for after lunch when I feel more like having a salad.

I bring it to work and don't have to worry about it cooling down in my thermos.

I've just been in the mood for a salad.

If i don't workout maybe a coffee or i fast till lunch.
A smoothie with raw milk, half an avocado, frozen banana, raw egg yolks and a handful of almonds.
I know that raw milk with raw egg yolks are good for your health but there's only one reason why i have this because IT TASTES SO GOOD!

Right now I eat a two egg omelette (sometimes with a little goat cheese in it), one chicken sausage and either a small handful of walnuts or macadamias. I used to alternate omelette and sausage days but I found after a while that I just couldn't eat three eggs or two sausages...I just got too full. This current breakfast seems to work out better for me now. I've tried also eating some berries with breakfast, but again, just too much to eat. Then I go to the gym and workout. I have tried going fasted (pre-paleo, but I overslept) and it doesn't work for me.

I eat that for two reasons. First, I typically workout in the morning, so protein is key in the first meal. Second, The more fat I eat early in the day the less hungry I feel throughout the day.

A glass of homemade goat kefir on the side. And some weak Earl Grey tea.

WHY I EAT IT: 1. Lack of other options - eggs are too gassy and I eat meat/fish for lunch and dinner so I don't really want it for breakfast too. 2 It's fast, yummy and keeps me full til lunch (about 4 hours later). And it reminds me of the "bowl of oatmeal/cereal" experience which I miss. And the carbs aren't a concern as I am not trying to lose weight.

WHY I WORRY: Maybe it's not high enough in protein.
