I have 10/10 sever seborrheic dermatitis from oily scalp. it will look like someone dumped my hair in olive oil after 2 days of washing. I've tried not washing for 3 months and I developed painful bumps that would bleed.

Right now im supplementing Vitamin A, in a raw fermented skate liver oil and Nutrisorb Vit A

Diet is potatos, apples and muscle meat 3-4 times a weak with gelatin. coconut oil and pastured butter.

I have started eating fermented cabbage(bubbies) and more recently I have introduced Natto to observe any reactions(previously some probiotics react negatively for me.) Natto actually has bacillus subtilis, which is the probiotic that is in all these soil based organism pills that everyone is big into now.

Any other suggestions? I'd rather not start attacking this topically but im open to ideas.

August2012-10-01T17:09:36Z2012-10-01T17:09:36Z
Try taking the coconut oil out. I was stubbornly trying to eat the stuff because it is supposed to be healthy, despite getting nauseated if I accidentally ate too much of it. Then I saw someone ask a question here: responding-badly-to-coconut-oil-and-butter. He mentions scaling between his eyes- well, I had the dermatitis, I had some over my eyelids, and just around the time this question showed up, I had scaling between my eyes. So, I dumped coconut and all this stuff disappeared.

It turns out I was eating quite a lot of it, especially given that the ice cream made with coconout instead of milk seemed like a relatively healthy treat, and making smoothies with coconut milk was fast and easy. The allergy appears to come from storage proteins (I'm glad I read that again because I've been saying they were transporter proteins for some unknown reason). So, this was one health issue that was getting steadily worse on a coconut laden paleo diet- but thankfully it cleared up pretty fast once I took coconut out of my diet.

I used to have a real problem with that.

What I've done is gone to a store called LUSH *handmade cosmetics. I eat a paleo diet nearly 100%, and I use a shampoo called trichomania (which is coconut derived). I find it gets a lot worse if I eat a lot of sugar (including fruit, so keep that in mind!).

I also use Lush's dry shampoo called No drought. It's like a lemon corn starch you can put in your hair to absorb extra oils between washing. The more I use this, and not fully wash my hair, the better my scalp is getting with time. I can't use it when I leave my hair curly, but I will go 1.5 weeks without washing my hair if I am using no drought and it is straightened.

Dow Jones2012-10-15T18:29:46Z2012-10-15T18:29:46Z
Sometimes fish oils can cause dermatitis. I have seen it many times in my patients especially in "oily" dermatitis cases. I would second August's opinion on coconut oil. You might look into anti fungus and yeast diet principles. High fat diets can exacerbate dermatitis in the short term on occasion.
