I should asked with along with the shampoo/lotion question, but. shrug

For sensitive skin and good coverage, ladies, what do you recommend?

A friend urged me to try samples of "vegan cosmetics" and it made me break out horrendously! I thought, how ironic that something that's supposed to be organic and "good for you" is making me break out? Her feedback was to "keep using it" and eventually it'd go away, but I discarded those samples and never tried them again.

It's a blessing. You may look a little blotchy from time to time - but so does everyone else! I'm a bit weird in that I have given up on all cosmetics.... I use coconut oil as a moisturizer, body oil, hair conditioner, tooth flossing etc. I know. I'm weird! I use Dead Sea mud as a shampoo but I hear that baking powder works just as well. Julia Roberts maintains her smile with baking powder instead of toothpaste. That's it. My beauty shelf has two items on it.

Eating well will help. Improve your skin from the inside out. But then you know that! You don't need make-up. or at least, I don't!

http://paleohacks.com/questions/153681/paleo-friendly-cosmetics/153694#153694Answer by Jackie for Paleo-friendly cosmeticsJackie2012-10-04T18:34:59Z2012-10-04T18:34:59Z
I guess it depends on what you need or want to use. I enjoy wearing make up, whether it is paleo to wear make up or not, but I keep it light and natural.

As I noted in your lotion question, I use Dr. Hauschka products for some of my skin care. I only wash my face at night, and apply the cocoa butter blend for night moisturizer, so in the morning, I just mist some Dr. Hauschka toner on, pat it onto my face, then apply the Daily moisturizing day cream (it is in a bottle with a pump, way better than their creams in tubes). Then I apply Kinerase eye cream by tapping it around the eye area.

I sometimes have dark circles, and for this, I use Eco Nvey Organic concealer. I get this on Dermstore.com which has a 10% discount program for items in your "favorites" list. They only have 3 shades which is their only downfall, but I am pretty pale so I usually just need their lightest color, but I have a medium to blend with the light for the summer. It has great, lightweight coverage and doesn't crease. I even use the light as an eye shadow base (though I don't wear eye shadow, just the same look as a base). If I have a blemish, I use this as needed.

I use Bare Minerals powder for foundation and blush/face color. I like these products (though other powder products exist that are similar) because they last forever (current jars are going on 2 years) and you can apply as lightly or heavily as needed. The foundation powder can be dabbed onto blemishes very effectively too, and holds throughout the day. Super gentle too.

I have another guilty pleasure - Dior liquid eyeliner in brown - I just love the precision and the lightness, without any smearing. I might try a Dr. H eye liner in the future once this runs out, but eyeliner seems to last so long. Then I use Dr. H mascara in brown. It is fantastic, smells lightly of roses (rose petal wax is in most of their products) and it has great coverage, and it is super gentle.

Then for lips I just use the D. H lip care in a stick. Pretty simple, beeswax, rose petal wax, calendula, all the ingredients on on the website - doesn't taste chemically, and just brings out the natural shade of your own lips, with a little glisten. The stick looks yellow, but that's just the beeswax, and is truly transparent when on your lips.

It seems like so much written down, but this seriously only takes about 5 minutes in the morning because I don't wash my face, just pat it down with the toner. I found that washing my face in the morning made me need more moisturizer, which made my make up melt, but now it feels great just doing this, and then I wash it off at night and just do the eye cream and cocoa butter.

(Brush or mix with water and let sit on the teeth for awhile. I brush with coconut oil after.)

Anyway...I read that some people dip a wet eyeliner brush in the capsule to use as eyeliner and that it works well.

I use store bought makeup otherwise but for washing I use just a washcloth and scrub.

Moisturizing my face I use jojoba oil and raw shea butter around my eyes. For a mask I use bentonite clay mixed with apple cider vinegar.

I hope more people post because I would like to use some better makeup products without the price tag.

I use it instead of lipstick, it lasts for about 4 hours even if you eat. I keep it refrigerated for a week. It also works like blush.

I do not do anything to my face - for the first time in my life my skin is NOT DRY!!! In the winter, when it is too cold, I use my favorite 100% shea butter - HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! It is a perfect moisturizer and a callus remover.

I use activated charcoal mixed with aloe vera juice for the eyeliner.

I swear I don't work for any of these companies... I have had great success with Mary Kay products. I use their face/eye lotions and make-up. For hair products, I mostly use Live Clean (available in Canada, some of their baby line is available in the US) and Dessert Essence. I'm not ready to give up my make-up and hair products... yet!

As disclosure it's owned and run by a close friend of mine, but as such I can attest to how committed she is to making excellent products that live up to her expectations. She couldn't find a brand that made products up to her standards, so she started her own.

I use their tinted moisturizer, powder, bronzer, blush, eyeliner, mascara, and lip surgences. I guess that sounds like a lot to put on but even though I try keep my products on the natural side, I'm still really girly. For body products, I really like using coconut oil, shea butter, almond oil, and Dessert Essence has some great products. For hair, Giovanni has been the best I have tried. I know they aren't all perfectly natural, but they are definitely a better alternative. I still want to smell and look pretty so I have learned to find a happy medium.

Actually it is like the wikipedia of make-up and cosmetics only with more pictures :) you can filter for brands, price range etc... I always use it as a starting point for my beauty products shopping.
