Soy and corn are the least the worries. Chicken excrement, feathers, expired candy bars (with the wrappers) and all sorts of other nasty stuff has been fed to these poor cattle. I don't think they still feed them rendered cow carcases anymore, but who knows what stuff they feed them now.

Stick to grassfed and finished, you'll be happier and healthier, and plus you'll vote with your dollars against bad practices and for good ones.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/154609/corn-fed-liver-vs-grass-fed-liver/157781#157781 Answer by Matt for corn fed liver vs grass fed liver Matt 2012-10-24T13:10:33Z 2012-10-24T13:10:33Z
Is it inferior to grass-fed nutritionally? Yes.

Should you avoid it altogether? No.

Is it optimal? No, but sometimes optimality needs to be balanced with other factors, those factors are completely individual. It's your choice to consume it or not, the internet rabble (myself included) is not the end all to what is the correct way to eat or not.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/154609/corn-fed-liver-vs-grass-fed-liver/157785#157785 Answer by veritasnyc for corn fed liver vs grass fed liver veritasnyc 2012-10-24T13:35:07Z 2012-10-24T13:35:07Z
yes, there is documented evidence that the nutritional deficiencies of corn-fed liver:

tend to turn people into psychopaths, and

cause an insatiable desire to consume chianti.

it's important to note that folks named hannibal tend to be more susceptible to the above mentioned effects, because they also tend to resort to more creative sources of liver.

all joking aside, while 100% grass-fed will be most optimal from a nutritional perspective, access to 100% grass-fed may be limited (e.g. depending on where you live or budget considerations). if you can't have 100% grass-fed all the time, just make sure that it is from a "high quality" meat provider (starting with grass-fed / grain finished on down), it won't kill you and it's better than not having any at all. veal is another good option.

personally, i mix it up a bit 100% grass-fed beef, high-quality water fowl liver, and beef liverwurst or sausages (to add other organs in a more palatable way). hmmm sweetbreads.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/154609/corn-fed-liver-vs-grass-fed-liver/159402#159402 Answer by gifford for corn fed liver vs grass fed liver gifford 2012-11-04T01:56:11Z 2012-11-04T01:56:11Z
Liver filters toxins, so it might be more important that liver in particular comes from a safe source.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/154609/corn-fed-liver-vs-grass-fed-liver/161371#161371 Answer by Aaron for corn fed liver vs grass fed liver Aaron 2012-11-15T03:41:22Z 2012-11-16T17:58:25Z
I am a farmer and byfar the corn fed beef is a better choice. From my point of view with knowledge to back it up grass fed beef takes longer to graze than to feed on corn. You need an ample supply of pasture to finish the cattle for slaughter. With grass fed grazing since there is longer grazing there is a higher chance of disease in the herd. The highest quality of meat you can get out of grass fed beef is choice. Your ribeye area is smaller. The highest BCS (body condition score) you can have is a seven.

The downsides of corn fed beef is the price of corn is high and it costs more than grass fed beef. With corn fed beef we supplement in grass hay corn stalks and distillers grain. NO CANDY WRAPPERS AND GARBAGE. I do not know where one of you got that idea from. PLUS EATING CORN FED BEEF LIVERS DOES NOT MAKE YOU A PSYCHOPATH YOUR SHELTERED LIFE IS TERRIBLE. There is no science behind the grass fed beef saying that it is more "NUTRITIONAL". The cattle get more proteins with corn. There is less space taken up when feeding corn. Grass fed beef is a niche market.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/154609/corn-fed-liver-vs-grass-fed-liver/161376#161376 Answer by primalpat for corn fed liver vs grass fed liver primalpat 2012-11-15T04:06:23Z 2012-11-15T04:06:23Z
I'll tell you the main difference between conventional liver and grass-fed.

Are you ready?

Srsly?

SCAR TISSUE.

Yep. Goddamn scar tissue.

On two separate occasions, eating liver from two totally different grocery stores, I encountered stringy, sinewy STUFF in my conventional liver. It was un-edible, completely disgusting and ruined a perfectly food meal.

I discussed this with a grass-fed farmer who told me this was probably scar tissue. Cows aren't meant to eat corn, but doing so damages their liver, causing said scar tissue. GROSS RIGHT?!

Ok, now that the really gross part is over, I'll tell you the other main diff:

Flavour.

I've found conventional liver to be really LIVER-Y.

Grass-fed is much milder and pleasant tasting.

Offal shouldn't be awful. Get it? BAHAHA! Oy.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/154609/corn-fed-liver-vs-grass-fed-liver/168452#168452 Answer by Mahhh dude for corn fed liver vs grass fed liver Mahhh dude 2012-12-21T02:06:31Z 2012-12-21T02:06:31Z
http://www.nutritionj.com/content/9/1/10

Scroll to the bottom and read the conclusion.

Grass Fed Beef has higher amounts of omega 3 fatty acids, fat and water soluble vitamins, with fewer calories, fat, and cholesterol than conventionally raised beef fed GENETICALLY MODIFIED corn and soy.
