It worked. Vegetables for breakfast, lunch and dinner with protein. Wanted a dessert so had a poached pear with a little cream, 1 Tbl nuts, cinnamon, raw cacao powder, and 1 Tbl. Dakota 73 percent chocolate nibs. Total dessert: probably 25 carbs. This is a lot more than I am used to. But it sure is delicious!</p> <p>Truthfully, for me I can eat a bar a day, which is bad. If you can manage a small amount as a treat, then it's part of your delicious range of healthy fats and it's fine. If it is, or becomes, a binge food, then you of course have to stay away. Even 73% has plenty of sugar if you eat too much, and if you work your way up to 100% (I have!), that still has plenty of calories. One of the joys of paleo is that many, myself included, don't need to count calories .. assuming no binging!</p> <p>Anyway, I don't think of foods as helping with weight loss. I think of a healthy diet as helping with weight loss. Some foods promote a healthy diet and some don't. A little bit of dark chocolate can be part of that, but an excess of it wouldn't. First of all it affects the brain the same way as speed/amphetamines so if you are a sugar addict etc it has an almost drug like effect on you. Hyper. Secondly if you are a chocolate addict it primes the pump and ensures your body never loses the desire for your addictive substance, like the alcooholic who could never have a tiny drink every afternoon for old time's sake. Also look at it - it's hardly something you'd pick from a tree. I've been to cacao plantations. What natural wild person would pluck that of and process it to be able to eat it? Cocoa fat is a nice saturated fat that can be good for you, but the sugar is definitely an addition that has the addictive effect on top of the feel-good chemicals already in the cocoa.</p> <p>So.... However, for most people (i.e. not bingers) it doesn't hurt either. Would have to say it doesn't help, except that allowing yourself a bit of dark chocolate every day is satisfying, and might help you avoid/crave other sweets?
