I want to know what people have tried to hand out (that is Paleo-ish) to kids for trick or treat that has been a success (I know it's hard to know, but maybe you saw a positive reaction or heard word of mouth through your neighbors or kids that your treat was a success). I'll entertain all responses, but prefer something that won't break the bank. Plenty of threads with suggestions...I don't need those...only tried and true.

Not grass-fed certainly, but much better than candy.

Costco didn't have either this year, so I picked up a box of mini bags of popcorn. Not the greatest, but better than high fructose corn syrup laden candy.

Kind of expensive options though, depending on the amount of trick-or-treaters you get.

Other ideas: non food items such as pencils or little halloween themed trinkets, gum

You can also make a big batch of spiced nuts and put them in little baggies. Craisins, raisins, and dried fruit. Jerky. Maybe dark chocolate, since it's a once a year thing? That would be easy to find.

I'm 24 and love Halloween more and more every year...

That being said, dark chocolate I think is a reasonable option. I tend to give out dark chocolate and vintage candy first. And then I run out and have to go to the store for whatever's left on the shelf at 8pm on Halloween night...

By the way, growing up, non-food treat were a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. I was a practical kid. I had no use for cheap spider rings, pencils, and stickers. I threw them away immediately. Every kid I grew up with felt the same way.

I filled a bowl half with Reese's cups and half with clementines that I had painted to look like jack-o-lanterns and let kids choose. The clementines were gone WAY before the Reese's. I try to do that every year now.
