How long do the side-effects of gluten last? - PaleoHacks.com most recent 30 from http://paleohacks.com 2013-06-18T07:54:21Z http://paleohacks.com/feeds/question/155857 http://www.creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/2.5/rdf http://paleohacks.com/questions/155857/how-long-do-the-side-effects-of-gluten-last How long do the side-effects of gluten last? twochickadeez 2012-10-15T13:25:06Z 2012-10-15T23:47:49Z
I've been eating Paleo on and off since February. I did a whole 30 in February and felt amazing. I mainly get side-tracked on the weekends and then I feel like crap the first couple days of the week, which negatively affects my workouts due to the joint pain I experience (I attribute the joint pain to shitty eating although I can't be 100% positive this is the cause). I'm motivated to clean up my diet, at the very least, remove gluten from my diet completely (including weekends!). Realistically, I imagine gluten will sneak into my diet here and there, so I'm wondering, how long do the effects of gluten last? Are the effects more severe dependent upon the amount (the more gluten you consume, the worse you feel?)?
http://paleohacks.com/questions/155857/how-long-do-the-side-effects-of-gluten-last/155862#155862 Answer by rooky for How long do the side-effects of gluten last? rooky 2012-10-15T13:39:22Z 2012-10-15T13:39:22Z
Don't know about long term but I find that if you get back to avoiding gluten straight away, the effects can last for 1-3 days. I had some yesterday and I am fine today. I've had plenty of water, exercise and good food today so that helps.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/155857/how-long-do-the-side-effects-of-gluten-last/155865#155865 Answer by MathGirl72 for How long do the side-effects of gluten last? When I have purposely eaten wheat, it's lasted for a few days. It only took a few times for the light bulb to come on and realize that the bread I wanted so bad isn't worth the miserable feeling it causes! =)

I don't get any joint pain, but do retain lots of fluid when I consume wheat. I drink lots of water and it helps move things out.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/155857/how-long-do-the-side-effects-of-gluten-last/155866#155866 Answer by aseafish for How long do the side-effects of gluten last? aseafish 2012-10-15T14:16:27Z 2012-10-15T14:16:27Z
For me it lasts several days, last time it was a week. While it lasts, it seems like it will go on forever. I never, ever eat anything with gluten knowingly.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/155857/how-long-do-the-side-effects-of-gluten-last/155885#155885 Answer by Whitney for How long do the side-effects of gluten last? I was also walking with a limp most of the time, and was often awake at night with the pain...

At the time I had no idea that gluten was even related to joint pain, but I just woke up on the 3rd morning feeling fine! I don't intend to ever go back to the evil G. Cheating is NOT worth it for me.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/155857/how-long-do-the-side-effects-of-gluten-last/155995#155995 Answer by Jon for How long do the side-effects of gluten last? Jon 2012-10-15T23:47:49Z 2012-10-15T23:47:49Z
On top of indigestion and joint pain, gluten tends to exacerbate the eczema terribly (fingers swell, skin cracks, bleed, itches like a nightmare). The GI and joint issues usually resolve in a few days, but my skin can take days to weeks to heal.
