So, my previous question of a similar name was more for life's sake. Well, I no longer can only afford $35/week.

Now it is a question, a strict one, to inspire creativity.

keep it personal and forget about tax.

What's your list with your prices? What would you buy, and how much with $40/week?

Also, if you're interested, you can check to see what the caloric breakdown is, and macronutrients, even micronutrients. What ever your heart desires.

I'm curious what you'll say.

Best,
Jared

1 Organic Chicken: 10-13

1 Pound Grass Fed Beef (5-7)

1 pound Carrots ($1-2)

1 pound Onions ($1-2)

16 oz Olive Oil ($6)

2 Pounds Rice ($3)

1 dozen eggs ($4)

2 cans Salmon ($4)

(Optional: Add 3 oranges, $2, for Vitamin C)

Total 36-43. You could substitute sweet potato for the rice, but I don't find it as filling, and you lower calories by around 300 per day.

Per Day:
1675 Calories
111g Carbs
90g Fats (without the Salmon, it is a 1:2 Omega 3:6 Ratio, with the salmon, its a lot more Omega 3)
71g Protein

Meals:

Roast Chicken, serve with Olive Oil and Rice (2-3 Meals)

Use Chicken Carcass for 1 Gallon Bone Broth (4-8 Meals, Serve with Rice and Olive Oil, add a little chicken or beef)

Brown Ground Beef with Carrots and Onions, 2-3 Meals, serve with Rice.

Eggs for breakfast with Olive Oil

Salmon Patties or Salmon with Olive Oil or Salmon Soup or Salmon over Rice.

(On a low budget like this, I would prioritize meats and fats over vegetables. Coincidentally, this is about my general weekly budget and eating, with probably less fat and less salmon, and slightly more vegetables that I get from the food coop.)

[Redux]Paleo Papa2012-10-16T17:16:20Z2012-10-16T17:16:20Z
Here's a thought, get to know your local grocer's schedule for marking down cuts of beef. I've seen discolored ribeyes for as little as $1.49 per pound after markdown. Often times shoppers shy away from beef that is no longer "bright red". Some restaurants charge a premium for this "aged beef"; and you maybe able to get it for next to nothing. Local in-season veggies can also be fairly inexpensive, depending on your market. Just a thought.

[Redux]Lyndsay2012-10-16T23:07:52Z2012-10-16T23:07:52Z
If you only have $40 to spend per week (I've been there, trust me), you can't afford everything organic, grass-fed.
I'd focus on:

a big bunch, container of organic mixed greens- $4

3 onions, red, white, yellow- $3

family pack of ground beef (4-5 lbs)-$7

whole fryer chicken- $7

a dozen free-range eggs- $4

use the rest of the money for the condiments of your choice : salsa, tomato sauce, hot sauce, mustard, olive oil, vinegar, or spices.

A lot depends on how much I've already got in my house, but a normal list might look like:

Eggs. 1.5 dozen carton $2.50

Sardines. 1 can. ~$2.50

Butter. Non-organic, 16 oz $3

Huge box of spinach/greens ~$4

Other green veggies (broccoli, asparagus, peppers, zucchini, etc.) ~$5

Whole chicken, conventional ~5

Bag of potatoes $3

3.5 lb grass fed beef roast from local rancher $15

Of course, this would shift as needed, including dairy, nuts, etc. I buy my meat once a month, and including organs and bones (to make stock with which I sometimes prepare beans and rice).

Avocados X8

Sweet Potatoes (about 300g each) X8

Dozen Eggs Pastured

Large Package of Eckrich Smoked Sausage X1

Liverwurst (Braunschweiger) X1 16oz

Broccoli Heads X8

Bar of Lindt Chocolate 90% Cocao X1

Jalapeno X8

The above items I buy every week and it is about 42.00. Other items I buy less often include:

Chicken Breast Sams Club, about 3 packages per month or about 7-8 bucks a week

Wine (Luxury that in all honesty could be removed) average another 20-22 bucks a week.

Pastured Butter at most another couple bucks a week average out for the month.

I need to total all of this up sometime and get a true figure in here. But this is roughly correct. Typing all this out makes me realize I should just drop the wine...but it's so good.
