So I found Kerrygold butter in the local supermarket (Kaiserslautern area), however upon reading the label, I found it is 30% butter and 70% rapeseed (canola/corn) oil. I was under the impression it was pure butter.

I have read various articles that say to stay away from those oils. However as I understand it one of the benefits of Kerrygold is the Omega 3:6 ratio. Is the rapeseed oil how they accomplish it? The added rapeseed oil does not seem right to me. Thanks.

It's supposed to have a better 3:6 ratio because supposedly the cows are grass-fed, although they do not put that on the package, unlike some other brands.

I would look for a German brand, grass fed, anything local? But don't use that particular one, not with rapeseed...that would make it everything you DON'T want in your butter. Heck, it's not even butter!

You don't need to buy Kerrygold just for the brand name--it was probably made to lower the cost in Germany in competition with local pure butters.

http://paleohacks.com/questions/157259/kerry-gold-butter-in-germany/158294#158294Answer by Sam for Kerry Gold butter in germanySam2012-10-26T18:13:19Z2012-10-26T18:13:19Z
Update: I found Kerrygold butter in another supermarket (Globus), and listed the butter as 82% fat, and no other ingredients. I think the difference has to do with what company packages the butter (I need to look and compare what companies did the packaging). On the package it says the butter is from Ireland but packaged in Germany. Thanks to everyone for the resouces and answers. If I find some more brands that are 100% grass fed and raw I will post for the community.
