Women: Have you noticed any change in hyperpigmentation (freckles) after being Paleo for a while? - PaleoHacks.com most recent 30 from http://paleohacks.com2013-05-25T13:29:20Zhttp://paleohacks.com/feeds/question/157748http://www.creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/2.5/rdfhttp://paleohacks.com/questions/157748/women-have-you-noticed-any-change-in-hyperpigmentation-freckles-after-being-pWomen: Have you noticed any change in hyperpigmentation (freckles) after being Paleo for a while?tbunchylulu2012-10-24T10:18:47Z2012-10-24T14:19:37Z

I am especially asking women who did not have freckles genetically, but got them from hormonal changes, perhaps in from going on the pill or from getting older. I never had any (neither parent does to this day) until my mid thirties. I never wore sunscreen until I turned forty, mostly because I don't really burn (I am half-Japanese). I started using it then, but never really noticed a decrease in freckling. I am now 48.

Since most alternative sources seem to state that non-genetic freckling is caused in part by estrogen, and also sugar consumption, I hoped that going Paleo (and greatly lessening sugar intake) would have an effect. After four months on Paleo/primal, I see no difference (though the four months have included summer). I am curious if anyone else has noticed any change.

By the way, I have also been taking astaxanthin and have swapped my fish oil for krill oil mostly because I had read that it provides a natural, internal sunscreen. But the freckles are still there.

What has been your experience?

Not sure if what I have is really "freckles" or just "age spots" or some more general sort of sun damage, but either way Retin-A has lightened the dark spots. I'm about your age.

I'm 49.

I keep my age spots to a minimum (can barely see them) with an glycolic acid lotion (Alpha Hydrox has one without parabens.)
